Oversized downtubes
Just scoped this one out on the 'bay.

Litespeed had similar "back in the day"....although, not to that extreme: 2004 Litespeed Ultimate

Seven did an aero/tri model around that time but I had only seen it in full titanium until this one..
Funny to think how long ago 2009 was when it comes to bike design. |

I owned one of these before. Beautifully crafted bike, light as anything, but frankly the ugliest looking bike I’ve ever owned. Took me forever to sell. This was the only angle it looked good from!

Also, here is shot showing how deep that tube is….for what it’s worth I bought mine complete as shown in photo for about $1250 (used) from a bike shop. I think they were happy to see it go even at that ridiculous low price because nobody could get by the look of it. It was ugly but really did ride nice! I don’t think that person has a chance to get the asking price but you never know. If you want unique this might be for you.

Oversized downtubes
Billboard. That's what Tom Ritchey said about big downtubes.
Slingshot. Proof you don't need a massive downtube. Last edited by MikeD; 01-07-2022 at 05:22 PM. |

Let’s just get rid of downtubes and a few others while we’re at it. Just needs a lefty fork to really get there.

Now to contrast the Seven…here was a Litespeed I owned that did a big down tube justice with the style. However, this had to be the worst riding bike I ever owned but boy could you fly on it!

Seven has had a few missteps when they have strayed from standard round tube bikes......https://sevencycles.com/bikes/limite...ect-diamas.php

What's the idea with these?..... a compartment for your hip-flask.

I think some really rich, but mysterious, group operating out of Columbia ordered a bunch of them. They modified them slightly (supposedly to improve the ride) then exported them to the US.

That bike has a hinge where the top tube meets the seat tube, so even a skinny downtube would prevent the hinge from doing its job.

I don't think a 2 kg frame qualifies as "light as anything."

Man I like odd bikes but that one is just too much even for me
At least my Y-Foil has a real reason for a beefy section of frame. |
