Thanks. I haven't used mine in ages, and that flaky stuff was the worst.
What's the difference between the two wheels in your last picture-containing post? One rim is as clean as a rim could get; the other not so much. Nvmd, reading fail on my part. The second photo is when after you scrubbed using acetone Last edited by echappist; 04-23-2020 at 12:13 PM. |

Great write up and illustration. I am curious about your clamp-on bench spindle tool. Never seen one. What hubs does it accommodate?

https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Monitor-.../dp/B07JHMQF32 I loved, loved the park tool version, but for $100.....i'd rather have my dad make 4 of these. I only have 12mm bikes in the house, but a 15mm sleeve would work just fine. I also don't see a need for QR anymore, sadly! Opinion: Should I take the Wheel and Hub decals off or leave them on?
I want to remove the white wheel decals and hub decals, and maybe replace the DT240 red decals with some stealth versions like I have before It looks busy and I prefer the look to picture #3. Previous Debadged Look: Stealth: |

I have some wheels I need to do this on. Thanks for the inspiration. Plus I've always wanted to try tape.

Thanks for the timely post. I'm planning to tackle the first of 2 sets of wheels with this stuff this weekend.
I have a few questions and have been going back and forth with Mariposa support for a couple of days. Here's some additional info I gleaned from them in case it helps anyone: -- I was told that as long as the tape's been stored in its plastic bag, "Carogna properties will start to slowly degrade after two years". So my 18 month old tape should be fine. -- In lieu of their adhesive remover, they endorse acetone or isopropyl alcohol for cleaning rims prior to taping. -- I asked about their Caronga adhesive primer, and was told it's not necessary for "normal road applications". They recommend the primer for "cyclocross 'handmade' tubulars like Dugast and FMB" due to the nature of the base tape being similar to raw cotton, and prone to absorbing water. With these tires, if you don't have their primer, they suggested just applying a coat of mastic to the base tape instead prior to taping. |

What Trek is that? It looks fantastic the way you have it built. I’d say no Enve decals though unless you could get some in an off white that is a closer match.

Nice write up. can i send you my pair of Enves to get the glue off The tape works great.
Stealth Enves would look better but be careful removing the decals. Dont use a heat gun. dont ask me how i know |

I have the same tape, which I'm going to apply to used 80s rims. I've got most of the glue off; however does the rim base need to be spotless for tape application or is it fine to have traces here and there?

I think the decals will be coming off. If new black decals weren't $55 from enve I might replace it with them. That being said, I don't care to show the brand of wheels or hubs and would rather have all black. I won't be using a heat gun to remove the decals. I'll stick to the hairdryer and take my time. |

Rim should be as clean and as smooth as possible in order for the E-M tape to have maimum surface are to bond to.
