. . . in the Adirondacks when I was joined by friends old and new to explore this great route from the Paradox Brewery in North Hudson, NY. This is one of the routes I will be using when I guide trips for BikeADK.

First we headed toward Moriah Center on a beautiful ribbon of smooth pavement that twists and turns through the forest before descending toward Lake Champlain. Then we headed to Ironville, where the Pennfield Museum commemorates the first industrial application of electricity in the United States.

Then it was onto gravel through the woods in humid weather that resembled a furnace! But that ended when we got caught in a thunderstorm that had just formed north of us and eventually caused widespread damage in a line south all the way to Poughkeepsie. We took shelter in a grove of giant pine trees, then continued testing our endurance--and our ability to swat hordes of deer flies off of us as we pedaled through the forest.

Finally we enjoyed the huge descent back down to the Paradox Brewery, where owner Joan Mrocka and her staff made sure the beer was cold and the giant pretzels were hot. Another superlative day in the 'Dacks.

What beer is that? Looks like a really hoppy IPA. Yum!!!

It’s a little too big for your jersey pocket. I carry mine in either a handlebar bag or cup holder styled bag. The Sony RX1r ii is definitely not for everyone but it really does take a nice picture.

I'm just from a journalism background, which means get the right publishable photo. I just got a Lumix ZS70 to replace my ZS50. The 70 is a bit larger, but has a full 20mb file, shoots HDR and RAW, and has both a flip-up monitor and an optical zoom that's 24mm-760mm equivalent. Like the ZS50, the dynamic range is not the best, but it definitely gets the job done with really good quality and does indeed fit in the jersey pocket. I usually put it on sports action mode for rides and it works great.

Such is life on the Colorado Front Range.

It was quite windy and got a little wet and then hit sun for the last 3 miles. Thank God I avoided the lightning.
