Moving:Lost parts

We bought our first house 8 months ago, and in the lead up to the move, I had packed a box of random, dirty, but useful parts to sell/reuse.

Whaddya know, I am looking for those old BB7 calipers for a new little side project and I cannot find them! I know they’re easily found and cheap, but I am double cheap and it’s buggin me that I can’t find these perfectly functional things in my house.

I think the same box holds a set of NOS Roval ti skewers which I also need. Ohhh this is bugging me. It is time to get one of those highly organized man-caves that others have shown on the Paceline.

If you want to find them immediately, just buy replacements.

I recently had a Garmin and K-Edge mount turn up in a random box of papers from our move 10 months ago!

And I still have a box or two of bike workshop stuff that never got unpacked. Does that mean I don't need it? No way!

You will not find them until you stop looking for them.

Try searching for something else. They should turn up in 5 minutes.

I have a sewing machine I want to give away and can't find a major part. Decluttering is waiting because decluttering needs to happen

I knew it. I posted this in the morning and I found the calipers and skewers tonight! Works nearly every time

They were in two separate and seemingly random locations !

My reciprocating saw (!?) went missing for about 8 months after my move last year until I borrowed one from the renter in the house I moved out of. And, no, it was a different saw from mine!

I feel your pain. After a move 6 months ago I'm still trying to figure out where stuff went or got stashed. We also did a massive purge and I think I may have donated or tossed a number of things I meant to hang onto.

Oh well, new stuff I guess

...the corollary to this is that when you find them, they will be in the last place in which you looked for them. Life is creepy that way.
