after you screw them together can the bearings be removed while the shell stays in place?

I highly recommend this particular bb. Had creaking issues on my C60 last season and replaced the press-in bb with one of these. Fixed the creak! I use one on my BMC SLR01 and am problem free so far this season too.

You just use the wrench to tighten it until it clicks, then back it off a 1/4 turn.

Next time my BB30 starts creaking it's coming out for good. I expect it to start in a couple months. Worst design ever!

I Have Been Very Happy
with this design. My latest build was a Apple Album, almost didn't go that route because I didn't want the PF BB. LBS suggested the Wheels Manufacturing BB and said 'thank me later' - great design!!

I've never tried this (yet) but they sell bearing extractors and presses for removing and installing them. Presumably there should be enough clearance to get one in there with it still in the frame. The extractor is essentially an expanding collet that grabs the race and give you a flat surface to smack on with a punch to pop it out.
