Centerlock rotor installation tips please
About to install Shimano XT centerlock rotors onto DT Swiss 240EXP hubs.
Splines - grease or antiseize? Lockring threads - grease or antiseize? Other tips? Thanks |

I've found regular grease is fine. Don't go overboard with it though. I use park tools generic grease. I'm sure anything is good.

You might know this, but I didn't. Don't try to use a bb socket, for some reason they designed the centerlock rotor rings to not work with them even though they have the same form factor.
Get a bb wrench that's open http://www.birzman.com/products_2.ph...cID=28&Key=129 |

Grease things that move
Anti Seize things that don't move (but don't require locktite).

People grease rotor/hub interfaces? I never bother.

That would be a better rule if anti-seize wasn't mostly grease.

Both Shimano and ParkTool say not to grease centerlock rotors.

I assume advice not to grease centerlock lockring threads is out of concern for grease liquidating as braking heats it up. I generally film the threads with marine grease but use it very sparingly. So far no issues.

Thank you. I had a Wheels Mfg wrench that fit nice and snug.

Some bb sockets might not have as much chamfer as others. And also, the lock rings are not all the same. But I think if you mention this to a bike mechanic they will nod knowingly. I had problems with my DT Swiss lock rings coming loose before I switched wrenches.

Don't get grease on the rotor.
Pro tip. SPP

No grease on the splines. Very light grease on the threads.
