Proof positive Outside is a dumpster fire of a publication. That was easily one of the worst articles I’ve read in a while.
I like steel bikes too; but that article is junk journalism. RIP Outside magazine.

so easy to tell who the author would be before even clicking; editors must love the kind of clickbait headlines they can work out of him

Does the author actually make a living writing this drivel?

Getting clicks = making a living
Nonsense hyperbolic titles = clicks

Let's have a contest: What will be the best next clickbait headline to appear in Outside? "Gravel is over, skinny tires are back" "Jorts" "5 secrets to becoming a better [fill in blank] cyclist" Last edited by sparky33; 02-03-2024 at 08:18 PM. |

The article was written by bikesnobnyc. Read light-heartedly with a grain of salt.

Eben Weiss peaked circa 2008 which is now *16 years ago*. The pandemic era somehow scrambled his brain and accelerated the decline. It’s sad, really. Sad!

I associate Bike Slob with the Lance Armstrong era. I didn't know that he was still writing.

I'm aware that the author rides bikes, but...
That piece, like so many examples of internet journalism, seems like it is written not by someone who actually rides bikes, but by someone who reads what other people (who may or may not ride bikes) think about riding bikes, and then regurgitates the 'observations' (or fabrications) that he has read in his own unique mess of word vomit. Similar to internet intellectuals of every variety who don't know how to think, have little to no first-hand experience of their own in the fields that they write about, but read the thoughts of others (who may or may not know how to think or themselves have any meaningful first hand experience in their chosen field of expertise of the moment) and 'react', 'comment', plagiarize, regurgitate, or crap out some new configuration of stale old ideas as if they were a fresh 'hot take' of their own. Remember when people knew how to write? Remember when 'click-bait' wasn't a word? |
