Another glorious example of what 'news' combined politics can do to ruin a great thing.

What a mess that story was. Thank God there was no social media when I was 16. Not becasue of racist BS but you Gen Xrs know what I mean. Fact is that kid went on to do a great thing, the reporter meanwhile was far worse. Just crazy.

Retweeting a comedian when you are 16 vs. raising 3 million dollars for a children's hospital only to have it stopped by a true race baiting "journalist" digging for anything to make the news is the bigger issue. I was impartial when this whole thing started, but now that an awesome event like RAGBRAI is in jeopardy based on the actions of a large media conglomerate trying to save face I care. I'm just pointing out that racism is the root cause of it all..
The underlying factor was a supposedly racist tweet by a 16 year old. The reporter then stroked the flame of racism to validate his character defamation of the kid. Again, it points back to racism, am I right? Sucks that the organization had to fold because of this drama. Sad situation all around. |

Snowflakes gonna snowflake.
I think we all know what would have happened if the profile had instead been of someone the interwebs decided is guilty of wrongthink. Heck, we have a great example of that with the response to the reporter. The ironic thing here is Carson King apparently handled this better than anyone else. He certainly didn't throw a tantrum like these clowns. |

Wow, this forum is more upset about racists being called out than the actual racism - AGAIN. Color me shocked!

Retweeting Tosh.0 skits is far from leading a klan rally or marching with some tiki torches. But, to each his own. I'm sure the 3 million dollar donation to the children's hospital more than covers any wrongdoing a retweet that was probably done by 10,000 other people who nobody cares about.

Total bummer that a longtime and famous ride was cancelled over nothing.

Here's another way to think of this. Say this kid had retweeted some comedian's joke about hurting cyclists. Would you still be saying character assassination? If others were saying this is character assassination, would you think that OK, we don't want to hold people to account for every dumb thing they said when they were 16, but we also don't want people getting a free pass either?
