The IRD Lobo is designed to work on 73mm BBs, and has an extra wide chainline (and extra wide Q factor).

This seems like best option for Hollowtech besides the expensive Sugino crank. I also found FSA makes the Omega in 46/30 but it is really heavy. https://shop.fullspeedahead.com/en/c...omega-crankset |

Designed for use with both 68 and 73mm BBs. Not sure on what you are basing the assertion of 'extra wide Q factor', to my knowledge IRD have not published that spec. If you find it please share it. Here's a crank with an extra wide Q factor. |

The shifting has been pretty good with modern 8020 shifters and a GRX front derailleur. Cranks located on this bicycle here, going to take it for more dirt rides in the next few months so I'll for sure have a better idea about how the shifting works under load and on extreme changes in grade. I've seen Sugino 601OX's in person before and I like the finish on these Dixna cranks more. |

Here's a couple postings about the width issues with the Lobo cranks: https://www.reddit.com/r/xbiking/com..._sugino_ox601/ https://www.reddit.com/r/bikewrench/..._sugino_ox601/ https://www.ridinggravel.com/compone...ravel-part-2x/ |

Soma doesn’t have a good stock of the Sugino OX - just black and no 170 mm.
From Japan, they’re $500. I think the Riv will get a Rene Hearse crank ‘cause it really needs a silver crank, and the retro look will go better with the bike, anyway.

The OX crank is gone from the Sugino website, it has been replaced by the OX2 version. Shimano style splines instead of the blocky splines of the OX version. |

They have an oval in the crankarms rather than a circular hole to allow the smaller BCD, and the 30 ring is tapped and bolted through from the 46 ring. These are 170's.

I think you'll be pleased with the shift quality. I owned all of the other 46/30 combo's I commented on and these by far shift the best. I like that crank - Report back!

Yes, sorry, I didn’t specify current vs old version.

See, I really need another bike. Strictly for 'scientific study'... All BS aside... it will make its way eventually onto the Riv Romulus. Perfect aesthetic for that bike, and will be interesting to compare and contrast it to the 48/36/26 Sugino on it now. I tried a used FSA 46/30 on another bike this Spring and found it to be surprisingly useful (feared the 30 would just be too small) and smooth shifting. Was able to avoid moving to a pie-plate rear cassette and preserve those nice smaller gaps between cogs that have been the cycling ideal for many years. Running a 10-42 (or even bigger) on your bike... really...?

I would really like to try this. I think the 46/30 gearing would be helpful.
But I don't want to spend a lot and worried that the shifting on the front might not be satisfactory. I use Sram Force 22 derailleurs. Ideally I could just remove my current Shimano 105 crankset and replace it with another Shimano Hollowtech compatible crankset. I found I can buy a new or used Tiagra crankset for around $90. Then add the bikinGreen rings for $80 and my total cost would be $170. Is this making sense? https://www.universalcycles.com/shop...0aAuPTEALw_wcB |
