Subcompact (46/30) double crankset options

I am exploring my options for a 46/30 crankset for an all road build and hoping for some input on cranksets.
I am going all silver/polished to go with lugged steel frame with threaded stem and have found the following options:
Rene Herse - very expensive AND sold out ATM
Sun XCD - former Sun Tour CEO
TA Pro Vis - old and new
Sugino XP - rare
Stronglight French threaded mostly

Any experience with these? I have a TA Pro Vis on a city bike which I like but is fiddly. Will not be jumping off any rocks, but rider is a Clydesdale aka fat.

Maybe check DaVinci. Not sure if they support that combo.

Obviously Velo Orange’s crank probably belongs on that list.

FWIW, I just picked up a silver bikinGreen 46/30 crankset on eBay for silly money just to try it out; it hasn’t reached me yet so I can’t give you more info.

I haven't used any of those, but I have used Sugino OX cranks. These are a double crank with a 110mm BCD outer chainring and a 74mm BCD inner chainring. These also work with special extra-long chainring bolts to use 110mm BCD chainrings in both the inner and outer positions. Chainrings are available to make a variety of combinations, including 44/28, 46/30, 48/32, 50/34, 52/36, etc.

Cranks and chainrings are available in silver and black, in lengths from 160mm to 175mm. They have a 24mm spindle (so they work with Shimano Hollowtech II type bottom brackets), and have a chainline of 43.5mm and a Q factor of 145mm. They are compatible with both 10spd and 11spd.

I've used these with both a 44/28 and 48/32 combination, and I've been quite happy with them. More information on the Sugino website.

Subcompact (46/30) double crankset options

i put the bikingreen rings on old fc6650 110 bcd cranks and they are amazing. https://www.ebay.com/itm/36299905740...mis&media=COPY

Shift way better than TA 50.4 rings or VO similar ones and better than the white Ind vbc too.

cheap and awesome! but watch out they move the rings closer to the chainstay

+1 for Sugino OX as well as WI cranks for that combo. Never found either fiddly.

The black chainrings on the WI might throw off your all silver theme but I personally dig that look.

Another option is from IRD. I have one that I’ve been really happy with (I’ve moved it around between bikes but soon to be on my Rivendell Atlantis):
https://www.interlocracing.com/shop/...1?search=crank

There are TA rings that fit as well if you want to gussy it up a little. TA even makes a 29 tooth ring that fits if you want to get the gearing just a touch lower. I have a TA 44 / 29 set of rings for mine.

+1 for Sugino OX 901d (11 speed) They're very pretty, and shift flawlessly (which can be an issue with a big spread between large/small chainrings, not all rings are machined equally, you pay for what you get in my experience). They're expensive though, direct from Sugino is about the only source, though they ship fast from Japan, less than a week for me.
