My single pair of dress shoes are so old, they were made in the USA.

I know that doesn't help much, but this video does a much better job of explaining it:

I do fine with 8 pairs of loafers and dress shoes - primarily Allen Edmonds.

I have a friend who retired two years ago and he had 200 pair of shoes. He has thinned them out a lot now. He would not buy Allen Edmonds. Alden from the US and the rest from UK or Italy. He found a lot good deals on Backcountry.com.

8 Aldens, and counting. Mostly Cordovan. Actually some people on this forum turned me onto Alden. Unbeatable American designed shoes. British stuff comes off as too dainty for my taste.

A friend of mine runs an Alden store. She told me that she has a few customers who will order 10 pair of shoes, and one who ordered 30 pair last year.

Have always liked good shoes. Preferred ones that could be resoled.

As far as brands in the rotation that I like:

Church's - They invented the left and right shoe as well as half sizes. Owned by Prada now but have maintained enough autonomy and still offer all the classic designs.

Ferragamo - My daily dress when I needed them for a decade plus.

John Fluevog - Really like their understated offerings.

I have about two dozen pairs of dress shoes. Not sure of the breakdown but it's a bunch of Allen Edmonds, couple Ferragamo and Ballys, some vintage Florsheim Imperial longwings. Mix of thrifted stuff I scored for killer prices (John Lobb boots) and new stuff bought for good sale prices.

Nordstrom runs an anniversary sale every year (August or September maybe?) which usually includes a few nice shoes on steep discount. Nordstrom Rack occasionally has some AE but the one near me is really hit or miss, mostly miss, or what they have is one of their weird styles that I don't want. The Rack can also be a source for reasonably priced cedar shoe trees.

Allen Edmonds seconds can be found on shoebank.com. Keep checking back to see if they have what you want in your size. You will probably not be able to figure out why they're seconds.

Yeah, mostly Alden for me, USA and union made, and you can really customize your fit, and I love their shell cordovan.

I also have a significant smattering of other nice brands including Edward Green, Crockett & Jones, Vass, Trickers, R.M. Williams, J.M. Weston, and one pair of Gaziano & Girlings I got married in. I guess at some point, that becomes more than a smattering, but mostly I wear Aldens, love 'em.

Finn Comfort, handmade German. Better for your foot rather than style. The footbed are full leather and cork, if you have any problems with your feet this just absorbs the pain.

Used to wear Bostonians way back in the day, no idea when they crashed
