Not perfectly executed design but almost the same quality as a custom shoe at 1/3 to 1/4 the price at retail. Deals available regularly.

Edit: Just looked at the Specialized site. Not seeing an SL version but the new S-works looks improved in a couple areas.
Looks like they've dropped using "sl" to refer to the new torch based shoe. Gets confusing referring to old model vs new!

This times 1000.

And for mtb shoes:
My Giro Empire mtb lace-ups have been good and are relatively svelte.
I also had some Fizik mtb shoes that had eyelets so when the boas inevitably broke, i tore them out and laced them.

My take: Giro Ventana

Not light, not sleek looking, looks more like normal non-cycling shoes, very walkable, very comfortable, good price.

These showed up today and I really like the fit right out of the box. Will taken them on a ride this afternoon, but all signs point to just what I was looking for.

Another YAY for the RX8. Comfortable, durable, and light. Pretty much made my road shoes obsolete.

RX8s run narrower than the rest of the Shimano lineup for whatever reason.

I have XC702s, RC702s, and RC901s, and these RX8s squish my feet in the same size.

I'm just as happy in XC702s though, the extra weight from the chunkier lugs is negligible, they're maybe a smidge less stable on the pedal.

And I'm sold! These shoes are fantastic and just what I was looking for. Only one short ride on them and I can tell they work. Thanks again all!

I should try and find a place I could try on Shimanos, those look sharp.

Same - I knew the RX8 was the shoe for me until I tried them on. A bit of a bummer, but my feet are too wide for them. I envy those for whom they fit.
