Choke’s pics capture the ride quite well.
I’ve ridden fixie most years, flip flop once and downtube gears once.
I like the vibe, but would like to see a loosening of the bike preferences.
This ride appeals to an aging ridership, but the requirements haven’t changed in 17 yrs, excepting last years old mtb theme. I’m signed up, but uncertain what I’ll be riding.

Hello Cino Riders,

We hope this finds you well and enjoy some spring pedaling.

We are just over two months out from Cino 2023 and the planning team is getting things locked into place. We currently have 35 registered riders and need 20 more (by June 16) to make the ride happen. Sadly, nobody has registered in quite a while, so we're hoping you can help us out.

As our best cheerleaders and ambassadors, please spread the word near and far on social media, your local bike shop, or just shout in the streets as you ride! I have attached a PDF poster - feel free to print it out and post it in your local bike shop. If you'd like us to send you an actual paper copy, just reply to this email with your request and we'll get one (or several) in the mail to you.

Here is our website link: https://www.kalispellmontessori.com/cino.

As always, let us know if you have any questions. An update on Cino jerseys coming soon!

With gratitude,
Team Cino
If the ride is on, I'll be there.
Should I be on the lookout for some angry scientist from the other coast?
If so, look for the guy dressed like Bumble Bee Dave.
Hope the ride is a go.
I'm doing what I can to encourage the ride to loosen up it's classic definition.
I'll be looking for that pissed off scientist.
Some mellow non-tech guy from the other coast.

I will point him out. I’ll be the guy with the noodly legs. Not sure what bike I’m riding but I’ll probably be wearing a yellow Mitchell’s Mortuary jersey. There may be more than one of those out there though.

This is excellent. I'm looking forward to getting together with Paceline pals, old and new.

Very cool...When in Virginia Beach I rode with a club that was sponsored by 'Donald's Go-Go World'...1985 or so.

Seems pretty 'loose' to me already!

'Your bike must have at least three of the following characteristics to earn the Heroic stamp:

Steel frame

A frame made in 1987 or earlier

Non-indexed shifting

Old style clip pedals and straps

Single speed

Downtube or period-appropriate bar-end shift levers

Tubular tires

Fixed gear

No braze-ons for cables, etc. All clamps. (Unless they are purpose-built in a constructeur style.)'

'If you need to know, we’ve never turned away a non-Heroic bike rider. But those riders may be subject to some recognition of their shame. (Just a warning.)'

I've done Cino a number of times and there are always people with modern bikes doing the ride. The first time I did it I didn't have a vintage bike and I rode it on a bike that was a few years old. I was told by the organizer that I was free to ride whatever I wanted but that I should be prepared to endure some mild and good natured ribbing. He was right. I got a few comments and teasing with a smile but it was cool.

That said doing the event on vintage gear really is more fun for all kinds of reasons. I look forward to taking my vintage bike off the hook and spending some quality time on it. I know for sure I'd be much faster on my modern bike but I also know that I'd enjoy the event more on the old bike.

Either way i hope to see everyone there. Bring a modern bike for your first time and then build a vintage bike for the next time.

The Mitchells Mortuary jerseys were inspired by a visit to the Bisbee Bike Brothel in 2020, right before Covid shut everything down. The bike shop building apparently was a mortuary BITD and the shop sponsored a team. There was an old team jersey hanging on the wall there and one of the guys on the trip commissioned replicas to be made. I couldn’t find a pic of me in mine but here’s one of a friend at Eroica in the unsanctioned red version. I post it because it might be one of the cooler mortuary logos you’ll ever see. Couple of pics from the bike brothel. Since closed down but at one time it would be a destination shop for a classic bike enthusiast.

Found this Radavist gallery of the Brothel, also in 2020. Looks like it was a cool place; too bad I'll not get to see it. Too many of the cooler vintage shops are gone...

Ooh, nice, thanks for posting Nick! As you can see, a small shop and every little turn, your jaw drops. You can see the inspiration jersey in the left border of pic #18. In that same pic, in the desk, is a wooden cylinder. We had been there about an hour, gawking and gabbing with Ken and he asked if any of us would like a little nip. He pulled a nice bottle of whiskey out of that wooden thing and we all had a shot or two of some good stuff.

I love the wheel covers on the old tubs. I always thought they were a bit pretentious BITD, totally useless (purpose?) but totally cool.
