That looks horrific. Nothing like some big ‘ol rear panniers to ruin a ride with a short rear end and mid 40s trail.

It was by far and away the worst handling bike ride of my life. If I stood out of the saddle the rear end would violently shake. If I tried to take one, or both, hands off the bars the front end would violently shake.

I've since gone down the money pit of bikepacking frame bags and large saddle bags. Oops.

That said, I've really enjoyed riding the BMC Road+ with 700c wheels on 32mm tires. I don't have a real road bike to compare it to, but it's a lot of fun.

Here's how it's normally set up though, photo from a little 45 miler with 3500' of elevation.

Looks superb, now. Not so much with those panniers!

I am sure it would've handled just fine if the weight was low down on the front wheel.

Couldn’t you have just put those up front on a tara or similar low rider?

They are the full size panniers so I'm not sure they would do well up front. I normally use them on my touring bike but I figured I'd give them a go on this bike for once. Looking at some bikepacking bags for this one now.

I refer to this bike as the "Milk Truck". It is my daily commuter. I have ridden longish road rides with 700c's, however the 47mm GK are nice when it's dark out and you can't see what's on the road. It serves as a rain bike also, with the added benefit of being a heavy machine so the workout is compounded.

This one used to belong to another forum member (thanks @eli). Once it arrived to her new hometown we had to change from a purple/black color scheme to classy silver which just works so well with that baby blue.

The ride is sublime. With the Ultradynamico tires and wide-ish Velocity Blunt SS it feels planted yet zippy. It accelerates super well but corners like a bat out of hell. With a SON Dynamo and light it can take on Brevets and long rides into the night and of course with the rain we are getting here in Northern Europe, fenders are not optional.
