I actually had this 'repaired' once. Sent it off to a repair specialist. They said they couldn't find the crack - this was after removing paint to inspect. They repainted it and sent it back $$. I rebuilt, rode it and the crack reformed

Now that I've done more framebuilding I'm working up the courage to try remove the chrome and repair myself. I replaced a down tube on a Basso but this Max down tube intimidates me... Funny the frame looks beefy but to me feels pretty light compared to even some older SL frames I've handled....

have you considered sending it to someone that has experience working with Max tubes? like Zanconato?
