OT: Jeans and the pandemic

"Denim sales have fallen sharply since the coronavirus"

This is an angle I hadn't thought of. I haven't worn my jeans in I don't know how long.

PS: Can we have a pandemic discussion that isn't political?

i know the allen edmonds emails i'm getting seem to be more and more desperate.

i'm sure lots of sellers of formal and business/business casual clothing have got to be hurting.

i havent looked at a collared shirt, shoes or anything presentable really in months personally. been living in shorts and flip-flops when i'm not in cycling kit.

i was never big on buying a lot of clothes, but that need is definitely way down across the board. not surprising.

We went away for the weekend, to my inlaws in western MA.

I put my wallet in my pocket for the first time since late March.

For the few times that I've been out, I just put my license and a single credit card in my phone case...

And jeans? I'm either wearing shorts, running shorts, or warmups. Occasionally I'll put on a Meets shirt for video conferencing. I probably should up my game there...the same blue PMC Kids Volunteer tshirt is looking a little "too comfortable."

I'm considering buying a pair of shoes that will sit in the box for a while. Gotta see them make the century mark in 2022.

I think I saw that Brooks Bro’s filed for bankruptcy.

Personally, I’m in shorts and T-shirt and haven’t had a haircut since Feb.

I was out riding the other day and musing about how much work attire has evolved over the past 15 years. I started working in dress pants and full button down shirt. I now can show up to work in jeans and untucked shirt. On Friday T-shirts are fair game. Tennis shoes are also in-play every day of the week. I like being more casual but sometimes it makes me feel like what I do is of less value.

to @Angry's point, didn't Brooks Brothers declare bancruptcy recently? None of this is helping.. getting emails from the UK shirt guys all the time and they're getting a bit frantic as well..

i worked in a casual environment to begin with, but i'll admit to having days where i've worked in pajamas. I was really solid the first two months or so of working from home, and then it all kinda fell apart, lol. but like i said, my 'uniform' is jeans or shorts with a 3/4 sleeved raglan -- every day.

Had work events all last week (don't ask).

Had to get my first haircut in five months. Wore jeans, button down, and tie for a few days. Then wrapped it all up with a suit for the last event.

Total "nightmare" world after months of not leaving the house in anything more than shorts & a t-shirt, or bibs & a jersey.

It would probably take me longer to get dressed "fancy" now as I'm out of practice.
The last garments I recall purchasing are....socks. Nice shoes get almost no usage.

How can you not have had a haircut since Feb if you're a cyclist given our current weather?

Maybe your hair is thinner than mine. A lot of my rides lately have been 90F+ degrees and high humidity I'm super thankful for buzzing my hair every 2-3 weeks.

There's almost no point for me to go back to pay someone else to cut my hair... after 3-4 hair cuts I get it about 95% as good as paying someone. My wife just trims the back of the hairline where I can't see.

Jeans are like my uniform FWIW. I am really comfortable in them and basically would never go anywhere in sweat pants or a "track suit" type thing. It's way too hot for them now though.

I have a hard time getting pants & shorts that I like the fit of... I haven't been clothes shopping since this whole thing started and am not ready to go anytime soon. It's going to be super annoying if I have to order pants online and swap them if/when they don't fit.

We had a new "Outlet" mall start construction at the first of the year near me.

They pulled the plug mid April and it is just half built foundation and some walls.

Retail is dead.

It wasn't so much the $20 a pop, it was the 60-90 minutes plus the inane conversation.

I did have a good extended run with one barber. She was (still is) a biker...and we'd swap stories of our weekend rides. Kinda funny, me talking about my skinny tired bike and her talking about her Harley. We had fun yakking away.

When she retired I lost interest in having someone else cut my hair and bought a buzzer for $40. I've probably saved enough since then for a pair of Clement Criterium Setas.
