Are there any better fenders than PDW?
It's proving otherwise impossible to find PDW full metal fenders here in Spain/EU and we own two pairs... road width and all-road width. They aren't perfect, but they are easily the best fenders I have used.
Since they are so hard for me to acquire, does anyone have any recommendations for comparable, or even better fenders, that maybe I should try? Why I like PDW: 1. Metal 2. Modern aesthetic/anodized (not hammered) 3. Super rigid/don't rattle 4. Good mounting system/options/included hardware 5. Break-away mounts 6. Excellent coverage What I don't like about them 1. Pretty expensive 2. Hard to find 3. I used to say color, but they seem to have more now Let me know, thanks! Big adventure coming up, need to gear up!

I really like berthoud. They have break-away hardware, but it's pretty subtle.
Any color you want as long as it's silver |

Simworks Honjo Fenders and the Velo Orange fenders are both good options to consider.
I have a set of Honjo's and think they're amazing. No break-away hardware, but once they're on they are very solid. |

I have PDWs and Berthouds. They're both good but I like the Berthouds a bit better.
I can fit a slightly larger PDW (and tire) in my frame because of the way they're shaped, and less intrusion of hardware inside the arc of the fender--bolt heads and such. I've found it easier to get nice fender line with the Berthouds, and I think they're more resilient, which may be the difference between stainless steel and aluminum. I do need to update my Berthouds to breakaway mounts. Lately I'm intrigued by the flat Honjos that Sim-Works sells. The curled edge looks like it might keep water in check without so much wrap around the tire. |

Planet Bike Cascadia ALX fenders are best bargain for $ IMO
Slightly heavy but very easy install and very durable. VO are nice but a little junky and easily bent/banged up. Honjo's are the much better alternative for that stye and very expensive. Berthoud stainless are great and like Honjo and VO take real effort to install but if done well pays off. Last edited by charliedid; 07-20-2020 at 01:35 PM. |

I have Berthoud on a couple of bikes and they are very nice. I am swapping them for Honjos on one bike because they dont make the size I need, but I will be using Berthoud stays. Their flush mount is the cleanest looking and minimizes toe overlap. I've gotten used to it and now the eyebolts on other stays look atrocious. I also like Stronglight which I have on a gravel/tourer. They have a brushed dark anodized finish with no contours or rolled edges and large cross-section radius (i.e. flatter) and pretty much disappear on the bike. Coverage not as good as a full wraparound but very nice for that application. Berthoud stays on those too.

I have always liked SKS fenders and see no reason to use anything else. Other brands just don't mount as well.
And I HATED mounting the aluminum fenders that I had to drill holes for.

Another heads up for SKS. I have them on my Metrofiets cargo bike. They might not look as cool as PDW or Berthoud, but they fit perfectly!

The SKS Longboard fenders (mudflap included) on my commuter bike have stood up to a lot of abuse. On a fancier randonneuring bike that I don't lock up, I have Berthouds, which replaced cracked Honjos.
