Same here. I prefer RidewithGPS for routes, and I pay for that too.

I too let mine expire. Not a knock on strava at all. All the data and live segments were pretty cool. I just felt that all the bike computers/gps were interfering with the zen of my rides. Since I'm not training or racing, I didn't want to be staring down at another screen. If I still used my garmin regularly, I'd probably pay for the upgrade. As it is, I just use the phone app to record my rides.

the reason I pay for ride with gps may have disappeared, dunno. They put route design tools at the highest price level, and I'm not that happy with them. I wouldn't mind supporting strava, especially since they went to the tiered approach, but I just haven't been motivated to pay. I only use them to transfer rides to trainerroad, but I probably don't need to do that

I choose to pay for it. Those extra little bits are useful. The format of not having to pay is a grand gesture. No nonsense, clean interface with no intrusion of ads and other nonsense, for me makes it worth every penny. - JP

I been using the free version and it does let you modify any route as well as plan for new route.

Once the route you planned and saved, you can ride any time as a guided route which you don't get in the free RWGPS.

As for where about "beacon", I use the Garmin connect that send an email to whomever you want to know.

In a word, no. I don't see the value in paying.

Been paying since 2013. Use the social aspect of it, the route mapping and it keeps mileage on all my bikes and chains. Which is cool.

It's really amazing what you can get for free these days. I pay for RWGPS but not Strava. Apart from a very short span of time in 2013 I've only just recently started using Strava, mostly for the challenges, which I find surprisingly fun. I do have to admit that there is something to the social aspect of it that I enjoy too.

yeah I do also like to see the mileage of each bike. They should add to this and let you input when you installed chain and cassette and stuff like that so you can see what kind of mileage you are getting from these consumables.

That said, I think the free version can tell you bike mileage too... from what I remember when I used to not pay for it.

You can already do this, each bike has it’s list of components. I use it only for chains.

Looks like they're cutting off Leaderboards (i.e. KOMs) unless you pay for it!

Edit - You can still get KOMs. They're just removing some of the finer filtering in their leaderboards. I should have read the article better before posting.
