Thanks for all the ideas and please keep them coming. I have a surgical mask (not the n95 ones) but looking into replacements for when it reaches the end of its usable life.

Rothera Cycling. These guys make some of the nicest hats, so I’d bet their masks are also nice. I haven’t received mine yet, but when I do, I’ll post up.

I was going to order some from ornot.com.. but they sold out rather quickly. Not sure about the seam in the middle though anyways.

Yes, the straps are elasticized. Not a lot, but enough. I wear the loop around my neck and tie the others behind my head with the straps over (above) my ears. When in my office at work I simply slide the knot over my ears and down to my neck dropping the mask down, then reverse to pull it in position again. Don't need to touch the mask this way.

I simply cannot wear any mask for an extended period, former life included a lot of cleanroom time which was an absolute nightmare.

Thoughts and ideas?
It's hard to say because it depends so much on the particulars. The mask shape, the strap scheme, what your head is shaped like, even things like your hairstyle.

To get a sense for the amount of variation...

Here's the cloth mask my workplace gave me:

It's an around-the-head design, but it uses short-but-stretchy straps with knots on the end. You can have the lower loop around your neck, and tie the open side on the back of the head behind the ears. Because of the knots at the end of the strap, I *think* the intention is that a simple overhand knot can be used, although that still offers less security than a more complex knot.

Here's another cloth mask I have:

Obviously fits very differently around the face, and has more sizing versatility since it uses long rigid straps.
The trick for me on this mask seems to be making the top around-the-head strap pretty tight, and then leaving a bit of slack in the lower strap when fully upright to to allow to smoothly deal with head rotation.

Unless riding is a group....do you really thinking riding with a mask is necessary? I'm not taking any chances right now and being very careful and conservative...but I don't think a mask in really necessary if you're just riding by yourself.

I just ordered these after reading good reviews. A relative homemade lots and gave me a pair but they did not work out well. The ear straps were too tight and short. In Maryland we have to wear them in stores. I have a feeling this is going to be the case for some time.

The only potential problem with ear loop-style masks is that if the loops are too short or the elastic is too strong, they can pull your ears forward giving you a de jug-eared look. One of our nurses at work made me one with bicycle fabric and unfortunately I look like Pantani when I have it on, so unless she’s working I went back to using our regular surgical masks.

These gotta be thin for the price, but I need something for work, so bandannas it is. All they have left are pink dozens but I can rock that. Also gold singles & one or two solid colors.
