Walty Ti

Anyone owns one here?

I'm thinking about ordering a frame from them.

Search for "Waltly", with a second L after the T. There's a few threads out there.

I have one. S&S coupled gravel frame. They were easy to deal with, as long as you know exactly what you want. The only issue that I had with the frame was that the ulta-beefy titanium derailleur hanger was out of alignment on arrival and was a bitch-and-a-half to bend it straight.

Maybe for another thread, but do you mind describing your method of aligning a Ti hanger? Always considered these unrepairable.

Used a regular derailleur hanger alignment tool. Could basically only get enough leverage if I pushed/pulled it in line with the seatstay or chainstay. Through a combination of pushing/pulling across those two non-perpendicular vectors, you can create whatever bending vector you like... but it's not easy.

I'm sure better people than me could do it better than me, but it was just a lot of (in no particular order) muscle, cursing, trial, and error.

Been mulling a build like this over as well to consolidate my stable a bit. Do you remember their cost for adding the couplers by chance? Thanks!

It was $750 base frame, $550 for the couplers, and $150 for shipping.

Bent the integrated derailleur hangar on my Litespeed Vortex in a crash once. It took 2 guys putting their full weight on the Park alignment tool to get it straight again. Very touch-and-go, brute force operation. It was not pleasant to watch...

Oh hey that's me. I really like mine. As for the beefy ti hanger, mine was straight, but I did order a second one in case I manage to break mine, although I'm fairly certain if I manage to break that bastard that I'll have bigger problems than a broken hanger. The thread about my Waltly is here for those who don't want to search. I also have another custom ti frame from Titan, another similar company. That thread is here.

I also agree with prototoast that as long as you know what you want and are confident in your selections and choices, that you can get a phenomenal bike that way. If you don't know what you want, I can imagine it being tougher, but it seemed like both places were still willing to guide some in helping make the correct decisions, but obviously it seems likely you'd be able to get better guidance from a Kirk or his colleagues. I also really liked this episode from the Behind the Handlebars podcast where he talked about some of his reasons for doing some production in China. It's available in all your favorite podcast clients, also.
