Divorce & bikes
While perusing deals I missed on eBay I came across a steal of a Salsa that I missed.
Soon after, I come across what I thought was a duplicate listing... Nope, it's the 53cm 'hers' to the previous 58cm 'his', being sold by "letsgetdivorced". Those other 8 items? Parting out the rest of the bike! (or one hell of a coincidence, but...) |

the first salsa was here on PL for a crazy deal for a while and no one bought it. Someone on ebay got an even better deal but I was surprised no one jumped on it while it was here.

Reminds me of the first springtime group ride of the local cycling club a few years back. I walked up to my friend Joe, said "hello" and admired his new custom Seven. I jokingly asked him how he got his wife to agree to the purchase of such a nice, expensive, new bike. Through gritted teeth he answered "I divorced the _ _ _ _ _!"

She is/was sleeping with my best friend.
------ NNNNNNNNNNOPE. Just kidding. For the record my wife and I are happily married. That is a crazy coincidence.

I finished up a divorce last month and I kept all my bikes (Pegoretti, Merckx, Coconino, Serotta, 2 Nobilette GT's) and she kept her jewelry. She probably made out monetary-wise, but I wouldn't want to part with any of those bikes. I'm actually better off in every way now except for getting one of the cats. I'm not a cat guy but she's 10 years old, I'll give her a good life.

One of my buddies when I lived in Cali would flip Harleys by looking at divorce notices, made a nice additional income off of it and kept what he liked. This was in the 90s when they still had resale value (not sure about today, not my thing..)

Back in the 70's when I was a teen just having been bitten by the cycling bug, we were hanging around the LBS one afternoon. A woman came in and asked if they bought bikes. The answer was no, but they offered her the opportunity to put a photo/postcard/etc. on the bulletin board. Someone asked what kind of bike and she said "Kinelly" ….said the bike was in her basement. A couple of us went to see the bike and sure enough it was a Cinelli Supercorsa about 10 years old at the time, in great condition, fully Campagnolo Record, etc...It was too big for me, but perfect for my friend who paid the lady what she asked...$250. The catch was that it would come without the front wheel as her ex-husband had left the bike at the house locked by the front wheel to the furnace. No doubt he had intended to come back for it, but it was long gone if that ever happened. My friend still has the bike, but does not ride...

I walked into an unnamed bike shop in an unnamed part of the world and an unnamed bike that would ... rhyme with ... "Wichard Zachs" was hanging behind the counter. Shop rat explained that someone was keeping it there to ride out litigation proceedings.
Hope the owner got to keep it. |
