wow..mine is faded but even after 40years, not that faded..and GMT Master I...
I added the GMT Master to my previous post. That is the one you probably have. If that is correct it is known for faded "lume" and is worth even more.

My 14 year old daughter has already made me promise her that she gets my Submariner when my days are done. My dad has promised me his Sea-Dweller.

I couldn't ever imagine selling a Rolex.

First cruise in 1975..ship pulls into Rota Spain for passdown to the departing CV...so we go ashore to the Navy Exchange..they had Rolex Oysters(not date-just), stainless for $190..I should have bought 2-3 of them.

In 1967-68 Army PX at RSA, AL. sold Omega Chronographs like the astronauts used for about $200. That was a good deal too.

Another Pepsi GMT Master

Here's the Rolex that I inherited from my brother. I suspect he purchased it over in Germany or Europe during his first deployment to Germany in the late 70's. the bezel is faded and a bit worn from his flight suit rubbing on it.
Any idea how to dertemine the actual Mfg date?

The serial number should be engraved on the side of the case behind where the band attaches. Nice watch, could be worth a bundle.

Superior did a great job on my IWC too, but expensive because they are an authorized IWC shop. If the watch is out of warrantee and just needs service rather than repair, there are many reputable shops out there for much less money.

I feel like I've heard that before... sometime around 2007 and relating to another asset.

Coincidentally, I was in a Houston jeweler, (IW Marks) last Saturday and overheard a customer being quoted $700 for Rolex service. Was shocked. Of course, every $100 adds up. Maybe try them?

When mine was done I was told $650 if it was only the internals that needed to be worked on. I had a scratched crystal, scratched bezel, and bent winding thing (forget what that parts called). So with new ones of those my service was about $1000. I had the option of replacing those "not perfect" items. If the watch would went to Rolex in NYC they replace everything that isn't perfect.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a watch service center in Dallas?

Honestly, it’s Texas and he has been in this business for a long time. I’ve bought a few pieces from him. First time he was in a storage unit in Houston, he had a desk covered in High End watches, now he is in the Galleria area with a nice store front. Still knows watches and you can’t go wrong with him.

Best

Ray
