Crimping tool

Does anybody use a hexagonal crimper like the one shown below?

I saw someone on a youtube video use a similar tool to crimp the cable end thingie and it looks pretty slick...

Anyone have a recommendation?

End result looks more aerodynamic with mutliple ribbed crimps.

Yea, Super Glue makes one, comes in a bottle, almost wish someone would outlaw those useless cable end pollution problems.

I use a similar tool for crimping ferrules on small diameter electrical wire. Should do a fine job on bike cables also. But I prefer heat shrink tubing on my bike.

I really like my Park NP-6 needle-nose pliers. The jaws are square to each other and aligned perfectly, has two cut outs to reshape brake/derailleur cable ends after cutting and a cable end crimper that leaves a very neat and professional looking crimp.

Man I sure love the splash of color on the ends of my cables so for years have loved the colored alloy end crimps.

But colored heat shrink is brilliant and I can feel better about saving the environment. Oh wait....heatshink is plastic....dang....and what about all the extra cable I trim off. That's a lot worse than an alloy crimp end.....ugh....the humanity.....

LOL, just yanking your chain a bit m_sasso.

I actually do like the ideal of colored heat shrink though.

And to stay on topic...

I have used such a tool a long time ago on some much heavier steel cable. Seemed to work well and was pretty cool. I haven't thought about that in years.

Have you tried soldering cables with any kind of coating? I like the idea but I use Optislick Shimano cables and don't want to die from the fumes they might give off

I like this Knipex cutter. It is great for cuts, crimps housing ferrules, and cable ends.

I'm all for fancy purpose built tools, but crimping a cable end is not something that requires anything special.

I use a pair of harbor freight pliers that have a nice wide, flat surface for this

I have a ratcheting crimper that I’ve used for years for electrical work. They have different dies, and it does a nice job on ferrules as well. But I lust after all things Knipex.
