Giro 2nd TT (spoilers)

Great win, great performances and now pinot and pozzovivo will regret not pulling a couple of days ago, it happened what I thought was going to happen.

Froome has the podium right there. I think TD locked his second place off reach from people behind him, and even still can do something but i really doubt it, something really weird needs to happen aswell.

I think Sky will do a lot of work to get froomey at the podium. Race will get on fire tomorrow.

minus a mechanical, sickness, or crash, Yates has this now, right? No way TD is putting minute into him on any of the stages left.

I really thought this was T.D. race to lose but Yates really took it, was aggressive and earned it to this point.

Everything is uphill so i really doubt it but you never know... something really weird needs to happen to yates. A couple of bad days in climbs that TD should handle w/o any problems.

Im intrigued by sky, they will go for it for the podium.

Yes, he has it in the bag, no one can catch him if nothing diastrous occurs

1 YATES, Simon (MTS) 66:39:14
2 DUMOULIN, Tom (SUN) + 56
3 POZZOVIVO, Domenico (TBM) + 3:11
4 FROOME, Chris (SKY) + 3:50

Froome can get those 40 seconds, in the next 4 days...

what about aru drafting?

Tomorrow from the profile looks like somebody can pull up a "contador's" right from the start, better to warm up really well before the start.

The person who really performed badly--sad to see--was Thibaut Pinot.

Time trials are excruciating--you need the power and the clock in your head, and it is a rare combination.

Speaking of excruciating, it is amazing to me that Pozzovivo was as fast as he was with that knees-out pedaling style (which I hadn't noticed on his regular bike). The images of him compared to Dumoulin (perfect aero) are striking.

Not a bad day for Dumoulin. More than halved the deficit and only down 56 seconds. Plenty of time left. Anything can happen at the Giro.
On a lesser note, I see Aru had the best tt of his life, but accomplished this by drafting an Italian police motorcycle. Penalized a harsh 20 seconds. I love the Giro.

I think Dumoulin can definitely make up 56 seconds. Not every day will be golden for Yates if history is any witness.
.
Can DEFINITELY? How do you figure? It'll take a miracle in my opinion. Yates has just been climbing too well.

Yep. Stages 18,19, and 20 are tough mountain stages. Anything can happen. Should be interesting.

This is kinda what I meant way up there in post #2. Obviously there are some steep climbs and two summit finishes left, and it wouldn't be hard to lose a minute on one of those. But...

1) TD is a tempo climber - he won't unleash some vicious acceleration that leaves Yates trying to grab his wheel. He may grind him into dust, but I don't think the remaining stages are conducive to that.

2) Yates has looked so much better on the climbs than everyone else that it's hard for me to imagine him getting ground into dust.

Third week of a Grand Tour is crazy though - who knows what will happen.

I meant that it is definitely possible that TD has the ability/disposition/experience to make up 56 seconds on Yates before the end if there are any cracks at all in Yates' performance/confidence/team/etc. TD is not in his first rodeo here, and 56 seconds is not so massive, with "bonification points", etc.

That's all I was saying too, really.
.
Bonification points are the best! Whatever happens, I just hope it's entertaining.
