there are internal rods welded inside, this frame is very stiff, nothing to do with Ventury effect....
this is an old aircraft building system, and the master was Pino Morroni,a friend of Dave Porter.

I do lean towards viewing the one that I'm riding as the 'greatest'--sort of the bike equivalent of 'love the one you're with'.

That said, I sold some nice bikes when we were hit hard by the recession--and went out shopping for a quality frame that I could afford--budget was $200 and I had the parts to bolt on.

Then I found this--a Mike Howard fillet brazed Simonetti (Tange OS, probably from the '90s he thinks) for less than $200 for frame/fork/hs. I've since been putting together other bargain frames to try out, but this is the one that I haven't sold. While I miss some of the other ones (the Peter Mooney stands out), this is the best for me right now.

I still have bike lust, though...

I'm not sure what to make of this, but nearly all of the "greatest bike ever" bikes listed so far have Campy.

My newer Chris Kvale. It is "just right" for most of my road excursions.

favorite bike

This will not sit well with some on this forum, but my favorite bike is my Rivendell Roadeo. Sorry, I have no excuses.

Quite the observation. It is an overwhelming majority, especially if you only look at the road bikes.

You have to look pretty hard for the Campy on mine. (Hint: it holds up the saddle.)

I think my greatest bike ever is this Vogue NJS Track bike.

Full Suntour Superbe Group
Rides really smooth and pretty stiff.
Really pretty, I think

this is the angle i take as well. im not one for hankering after production bikes, so custom whips allow me to get everything i want out of the bicycle that will lead it to be the greatest bike for me, and i hope they will last me a lifetime.

this is the greatest bike for me

Best bike for what, exactly? That muddies things up a bit.

Best bike for travelling, riding on all kinds of roads with the ability to take 700x23 up to 700x32 tires - for me, it's the Hampsten Strada Bianca Ti S&S that I got last summer. It's not a race bike, though, or a lightweight climbing bike. But it fits me like a glove (custom) and can be ridden 12 months out of the year. Even takes fenders. Mind you, it's not slow. And it climbs just fine. But --

Best bike for a faster group with some climbing - Look 585 Optimum. Now that is a great bike.

Honorable mention - Serotta Fierte IT, ti and carbon mix. Does everything well.

All Shimano-equipped, BTW.

My rides over the last 25 years have included Trek 2000, Fondriest Top Level, Fondriest Carb Level, Serottta Colorado AL (aluminum), Masi Nuovo Strada, Merckx Corsa Extra, Univega Super Strada, Jamis Aurora, Centurion tourer (steel), Dean El Vado, Dean El Diente, Merckx AX, Hampsten SB (ti), Serotta Fierte IT (ti/carbon/), and Look 481, Look 585, and Look 585 Optimum.
