SuperTeam Carbon Wheels . . . Legit?

Legit? This showed up as an ad on Facebook.

https://www.superteamwheels.com/

The prices are crazy low, so immediately I thought scam. $470 for a PAIR of rim brake carbons?

https://www.superteamwheels.com/prod...lset-rim-brake

But then again, probably not too out of line if it's the Chinese manufacturer selling direct. anybody seen these before or ridden a set?

Could not even find specs (weight, spoke type, hooked/hookless, rim width etc. on their page). Besides the lack of detail, and even if this is not a scam, these seem to be generic no name Chinese rims, hubs, and spokes.

Not the least bit surprised hat they're selling around $470.

I've seen folks use them and they're fine. Old open mold carbon rims are cheap. Mass produced hubs in bulk are cheap.

I'd probably go for elite wheels for a bit more or look at btlos/light bicycle options. Used as well.

assuming it's their website, I've seen reviews and posts on the weightweenies forum.

It's hard to tell from the pic but it looks like they may be hookless? Not the best scenario/combination for rim brakes.

Superteam have been around for a long time - definitely legit. For a long time they were using Powerway R13 hubs, not sure if that's still the case, but just one of the cheap Chinese hub options. Not great, not terrible. Rim profile is pretty narrow by modern standards.

For a little more I'd look at something like the Elite Wheels Edge if going China direct, or for a bit more again you can go with one of the premium Chinese options (Light Bicycle, Farsports, BTLOS) and spec whatever you want (e.g. DT Swiss Hubs and Pillar spokes). For what it's worth, I'm very happy with my Farsports wheels, and there are many others here who've had BTLOS rims built up by oldpotatoe and are happy with those.

$470 is not that suspicious for a near-brand-x rim brake carbon. I've grabbed a set of 50mm wheels (CSC brand, Novatec 511/522 hubs and flat Pillar spokes) for $300 on an Ali sale, and that was shipped from within EU so no surprise taxes or tolls either.

Superteam is as established as a company that hardly ever advertises can be. Probably shipped more wheels than any more premium brand, likely by an order of magnitude. Can't speak to that particular site, I'd rather check Ali for their official store. Despite their reputation, Ali provides a bit of protection, at least against outright scams.
