Holy Tour

Randomly came across this documentary today on Amazon Prime and would highly recommend for anyone looking to get into the spirit. Basically follows some fans camping on the Col D’Izard in 2017, starting 12 days out from the tour arriving. Just a sweet view of the culture and I’m hoping a preview of what my life may be like when I retire.

It’s called Holy Tour and is a good easy watch and just an interesting look into the mountain...

My kids now want to go camp out in France for a stage of the race...

Sounds interesting. Good for getting from thoughts about COVID.

Started watching, loving it. Not at all what you'd expect in this genre. Thanks for the recommendation!

Yes, I agree, this is concentrating in the slow and peaceful life of the fans waiting for the race... I found it really interesting as I dream of getting to a mountain stage one day. I was able to see the start and prologue in London in 2007, long time ago... some day we’ll camp out and watch a mountain stage

Quite wonderful. Thanks for the tip.

We always wondered when we were passing all those camper vans parked on the mountains "what do you think those people do all day?"

Now we know the answer!

Glad to hear others are enjoying it too, thought it was just a sweet little look into a side of the culture I’ve never seen before. Excited to watch the racing now...

Thanks, I enjoyed this. I liked the fact that the baker comes by to resupply, though they had to buy a bigger loaf of bread since he was sold out of some things.. only in France I suppose. Not at all what I was expecting.

Wow, it's slow. Really slow. Be ready. Nothing seems to happen for a long time.

But I guess that's the point. It's "Waiting for Godot" on a mountainside.

It's the small moments that make the movie. For me, it was all about how relationships work between older married couples. Husband "It's noon!" Wife: "I'll make lunch." Husband: "If it's no trouble..."

Eventually, Godot actually shows up. The pay-off is the sheer joy on the faces of the spectators/campers as the race finally goes by. A nice bonus is the Etape du Tour segment (I looked for myself for a bit, but then realized it was the wrong year). And how they hate Parisians.

Fun.
