just buy whatever bike fits the best and put an eccentric BB in it. the only downside to these is re-adjusting tension when you have to change gears, which you likely won't do very often with a commuter.
I converted my Moots CX bike to a SSCX with a Phil Wood EBB recently and am loving it. searched forever for a bike that fit how I wanted and had rim brakes and rear spacing that would work with my CX wheel quiver. Nature Boy was on the list but I have the opposite problem: finding a small one! anyway, eventually I gave up and just converted a bike I already have and love. |

Take a look at the Surly Straggler. The 62cm frame has a 625mm ETT, 421mm reach, and 628mm stack. That's bigger than the Steamroller. More tire clearance too, and the funky forward-facing horizontal drop-outs are claimed to be singlespeed-able.

My roommate runs his Steamroller with Nano 40s, no problem.
He's using Paul Racers, but did swap out the fork for a Whisky with canti posts. |

How can you make Paul Racers work with canti posts???

The Steamroller is drilled for standard mid reach brakes.

Yes, I know, but he said he switched the fork.

Ah, got it. Definite contradiction.
