Paceline Machinists?

Anyone here with a lathe or mill?

I’m looking for someone to modify several Ultegra 8000 cassettes for use on older 10s wheels.

I send you the large 3-cog carrier end of a pile of new 11-32 / 11-30 / 11-28 cassettes, pay you well for your time, and you send back those with a 1.85mm deep by 42mm diameter recess machined in the back...

Anyone able to help out?

Veteran cyclist JP Morgen would likely take care of that for you. He's closed his SF machine shop and moved in the last year or so to Penngrove. Think he's still working some at home. Great guy.

I wish I could help you but our machine shop is already slammed and I keep bringing them things to make same day for one of our integration projects that’s late. If it was earlier this year I could have made a program for the CNC and busted out however many. Hopefully someone else can help.

Could you post a photo of the part you're looking to have machined?
I've a lathe also and am happy to help. I'm also just curious to understand what you're trying to accomplish.

Same here, checked a Shimano 11 cassette but not sure I get what you are trying to do. Curious.

Fit an 11spd cassette on a 10spd freehub?

I thought people trimmed the shoulders on their freehub bodies to accomplish this.

This is the best solution if the free hub body has shoulders that are wide enough to be reduced by 1.85mm. I did this on a few HED 10 speed freehub bodies and it works great. One caveat, these modifications move the cassette towards the spokes and on some hubs this will lead to the RD cage contacting the spokes in the largest sprocket.

Glad somebody said it..upper limit screw exactness is key but even then, under lotsa stress, the rear der can still tickle the spokes or worse(see Cervelo thread)...
