I've yaked with him lots at the shop(Jim tends his bikes while in Boulder)..geez, he's really normal..talks about how hungry he is(food hungry, not gotta win hungry)..he's just not a typical raving bike racer weirdo like some of them are.

"Boulder Dude"..funny..no 'profiling' there...hey tombyfslpk(reminds me of Mister Mxyzptlk), ever been to Boulder?

Did it ever occur that his interview persona is just “messin’ with folks”?

I think more than most and having grown up with the parents he has, plus add in Davis’ health issues, that this kid really has a solid perspective as to where this all sits in the grander scheme of things.

Oh yeah, then there was the accident with the moto that almost ended his cycling career in its prime...

You don’t have to like the interview podcast stuff but you should respect the athlete and accomplishments.

Stage 4 thoughts:

- Watch the replay of the sprint finish closely to see Greipel elbow his way into a clear lane to start the sprint. Surprised the judges didn't relegate him. Probably no protest lodged against him.

- For a guy who's not a "pure sprinter," Sagan is plenty fast in a pure sprint - with no lead out. I always watch him to learn how to better freelance a sprint.

- Should we put a fork in Cavendish, because it appears that he is done. 21st place today in a long, straight sprint.

Not really lost.. Gaviria won it outright. He had Sagan at his tail the last 200m but he held without much problem. Gaviria's a better sprinter at the moment, I think that is pretty much settled.

LOL he gets 2nd a lot.

I think its amazing how many sprints he wins or is in the top 5 of. As hes not really in the top 5 of the fastest and most powerful sprinters but he is still always there up front with them.

I also think he is probably yesterday's news. That said, he doesn't have a huge number of races days in his legs yet and I'm not sure about his leadout train. Today, though, they were well positioned and near the front right up to the end.

I will be curious to see if he can return to top level racing, but I'm also thinking his days of dominance are over.

Prediction: Cav will win one stage this TdF

Not a Cav fanboy or anything, just a wager.

I don't understand. Sagan already has a stage win, has worn the yellow jersey, and is leading the green jersey competition with an outstanding chance to win his sixth such award. There's exactly one guy that's had a better tour so far, Gaviria. Is there something more Sagan is supposed to do?

Yeah, according to some folks he needs to win every event he enters or else he’s a sub-average racer.

They don’t like a successful rider who also acts like he is a human being who smiles and enjoys racing and being alive instead of being a robotic automaton giving corporate-approved mini answers. He makes music videos and lives his life. That’s not the script of a pro bike racer.

Well, there's already an alien from outer space who will most likely win the race, so that's out.

I'll bet Phinney and Sagan get along well...

So is Lawson Craddock just going to hang on the back for the whole thing with a fractured scapula? I admire the guts but can’t see the point.
