ergolever mounting surprise - back to 5mm

as far as i can recall (correct me if i'm wrong...) all of the 11-sp campy levers, including the new 11-sp shaped hood veloce and centaur-10 used a T-25 wrench to install the clamps.

installing a new set of centaur-11 shifters today, fishing around with my T-25 wrench, no go. pull up the hood to look - back to 5mm allen key to mount.

interesting.

additionally, i like the new matte black look of the new centaur kit.

They probably use a steel bolt to save some $ and not as concerned about weight as in the levers using a Al T25 bolt.

Perfect! A hex head style nut in the correct location to use a ball-driver hex wrench!

I agree with BD. Sounds like a cost-cutting move for that calibre of parts.

+100. I'll sacrifice a few grams for ease of installation... and durability of the nut.

Definitely.

My older SR-11 Gen.1 have the T25...can't stand them. The H5 are so much easier (plus all older levers (10-S) had the H5, correct?).

Have carved out more than a few metal shards with those T25 splippery wrenches. I’ll take a hex when there is an awkward angle any day

The new Centaur kit looks surprisingly nice. It will look awesome on my 1998 Ritchey Road Logic.

Just curious: does anyone know if you can take the 5 mm hex nut from an older lever (say mid 2000 10 spd.) and replace the aluminum T25 on the newer levers? I have some of the former that could be scavenged.

I haven’t seen it in person, but in pictures, I prefer centaur’s all matte finish to the mixed gloss/matte finish on Potenza. The silver centaur also drops the odd dual finish found on Potenza.

Yes. I've done that and wish I had more.

Didn't realize Centaur was available electric!

edit: can't speak for 12 speed

It’s not. Centaur and Potenza have EPS shaped levers because they can only upshift one cog at a time. This restriction means they only have to pull one cogs worth of cable and that allows them to rotate the lever downward.
