any comment on the New 700c Mavic Open Pro

From an eBay listing anyone using these newere Open Pro's
How are they?
Thanks
Charles

''New 700c Mavic Open Pro rim in Silver

36 hole with welded seam and machined brake track

700c Clincher 435g

Open Pro is the latest version of Mavic "Open" rims, and as such is the most advanced evolution. Optimized up to the limit of material potential, Open Pro is probably the best road rim available.

You will get 2016 rim with this listing. 2012 rim is pictured.

The only difference for 2016 is the decal. ''

Well, that design is unchanged for over a decade...do they build into wheels that work? Yes

Do some get a noisy wedge that held the rim together when they welded it? Yes

Do the eyelets get noisy, that can be 'fixed'(temporarily) with a drop of linseed oil at the eyelet/nipple? Yes

Has Mavic known about this since the OpenPro was introduced but refuses to fix? Yes again..

This wheelbuilder doesn't think so...

Unless way cheap, I think there are better choices for aluminum rims out there...IMHO, of course, 'pal'..

DT, H+Son, Velocity, others...

The design changed after 2016, so the ones you reference are the same we have been buying for, well, a long time.

I like 'em, have them on a half dozen bikes and been very satisfied. Never had one come apart, get weird at the seam or get noisy, but my sample group is significantly smaller than OP's, so there's that.

As an aside, have also recently been very happy with a couple of builds using Mavic Open Elites, they also come in silver, similar design, machined brake track.

We could argue all day about the 'best road rim available' simce not every rider has the same needs/wants with regard to weight, hole count, width, etc. But no denying that Open Pros should be considered competent equipment for the average non-racing discerning rider.

I'm still riding Mavic Open Pro's on one bike...they hold up fine. But there's no way I'd be buying them new.

Sure but it's not even the best box-section dual wall rim. DT Swiss takes that by a mile. As wrench I saw a ton of them crack at the eyelets, even with the full length eyelets.

You forgot about the eyelet that pops free and you end up having the little rings sliding up and down the spokes. That was a fun one too.

This happened to me . Went DT and never had a problem. The eyelelets that dislodged made a noise that drove me nuts with two Mavic open pro rims.

I have had 5-6 sets of Open Pro rims on Record/Dura Ave and Ultegra hubs. All 32 hole. Absolutely ZERO problems. No rattles, zigs, zags or any other problem. I still have s sets going strong. I must be LUCKY!

^^^^^ HA!!! Yeah. My kid had those. She kept switching them to bigger bikes as she got older. Finally pulled them off last year. Kind of like the Mavic eyelet rings.

And the amazing thing was how many times it happened and they knew it. And yet still insisted there was nothing wrong!!!!! I did get someone to finally admit to me ages ago that it happened cause they are installed with too much pressure. But it still happens which is crazy. I guess thank goodness for DT Rims.

I guess shouldn't pile on anymore but even in the ERA of Kry-For-Me-siriums..wonky FH body, unique, monthly changing, aluminum spoke lengths, frozen eyelets, barber-pole spokes(we had a nice collection)...and they weren't cheap..and don't forget the exploding R-Sys wheels('zis is not possible!')...I refuse to build with any mavic rim.
