I was pulling an espresso on my La Spaziale machine when all the the dishes & cups started rattling. Though I stopped the shot I knew what it was, having experienced the same while living in Italy years ago. Of note, that city ((L’Aquila) was later devastated by a major earthquake in 2009 and is still recovering to this day.

whole apartment building in the lower east side was shaking for a WHILE. At least it felt like a while... was probably 20 seconds, but long enough for me to panic and start getting dressed to run outside.

Fairfield county, Ct here. Worst earthquake I've ever experienced, but I've lived in this region all my life. I'm selling my older condo, and thought, this is all I need now. Do we even have earthquake insurance in the east? Is this an act of God thing?

We got a pretty good shake here, with some rumbling even though we are 60+ miles from Lebanon NJ. It started here with a pretty loud noise--I thought the guys working on the sewer pumping station nearby dropped something big, but it continued, so I thought a building demolition or collapse--but it continued with aftershocks long enough that I realized 'earthquake'. Our house actually shook, windows rattled and stuff in cupboards rattled as we well. (I suspect that where we are in relation to the Mahwah River or some other geological feature meant we got quite good transmission of the shock waves.)
Of course compared to the Seattle earthquake we went through in 2001, this was pretty mild. Seattle was my only experience with a big quake 6.8 on the scale, and over a minute of sustained shaking, and I wouldn't mind it much if it were my last. When you feel an almost tidal/wave motion running under your feet while standing outside, and see lamp standards whipping back and forth, it is VERY unsettling... This one was less exciting than the last one when I was in Philly on the 27th floor of my then-office.
Definitely glad our years in Seattle didn’t feature a quake.

Piss off Mother Nature and this is what you get, earthquakes on the East Coast and Hurricanes out West. We (CA) haven't had an earthquake of significance in quite a while, must be time for the big one.
