I recently ordered a Ti medium reach rim brake frame it came down to DeSalvo or Quiring. I have purchased from both, a stainless frame from Scott and a steel frame from Mike, both were great to work with and the frames were as requested. I have met both and they are super friendly and knowledgeable, their pricing is very close. I basically flipped a coin and DeSalvo won. I didn't really have a preference.

One of my riding buddies had Scott build him a RB mid reach Ti frame in '19.
According to him he was a joy to work with and the bike turned out wonderful. Back then he only used straight gauge Ti tubes but with a weight diff of a few ozs. it was not a deal breaker. He is 6'2" 225# and according to him is just a dream bike.. If I was looking for a ti frame he would be on my short list for sure.. |

I’m trying to grasp the chronology of events here.
Evidently, the OP placed a deposit 2 1/2 months ago with Quiring and now wants feedback on that decision. That seems a bit counterintuitive. If you’re concerned about quality Is the deposit refundable? Last edited by XXtwindad; 02-18-2024 at 12:46 PM. |

Do not let Scott's affordability dissuade you. I've had my Quiring Road Disc for almost a year. His welds are on par with if not better than any other builder, my fitting session was top notch, and his customer service is great. I love my fully custom build and wouldn't trade it for a free Sachs.
Here's the link to my experience, enjoy https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=295757 |

Solid reputation, great to work with, excellent work. He's been building and designing for years.
How far down the queue are you? Local rider recently had this one built. Other background Scott welded for Slingshot, raced for them and later raced for Bianchi-Motorex MTB. Was part of the Bell's Brewery/Quiring Cycles team. Scott raced a lot, still races and rides, he continues to be fast. He's also a super nice guy. Last edited by SpeedyChix; 02-18-2024 at 09:06 PM. |

What is the answer you are looking for? Do you want him high on the list? Low on the list? In the middle of the list?

It's a simple question. Is the OP getting close to the top and nervous about the decision about the builder? AKA having second thoughts.

OK. I’ll play. *
1) Erik Rolf Alliance (biased perspective) 2) Mike De Salvo 3) Steve Potts. Absolute legend. 4) No. 22 (biased again) 5) Firefly 6) Bingham Built. Best welds in the biz. Don’t like the logo. 7) Moots 8) Mosaic 9) Indy Fab. Look up “bead blasted.” 10) Caletti … cuz NorCal. * Carl Strong is focusing on carbon. Otherwise, hard not to place him in the top five. So…maybe somewhere between 11-20? Very subjective list, obviously. Open to arguments. Feel free to put Steve Potts at # 1. But, the OP asked, so I thought I’d oblige. Summary - there is major top end frames being designed and built in the US. Pick one, ideally, that is close to you for personal measurement and discussion and availability. From comments here, clearly ou shouldn't be disappointed in Scott. Ranking is like music, in the eye/ear of the beholder. |

I too find any sort of actual ranking a little bit gauche.
I had a Quiring, it was a very fine bicycle that would stand up to most any other ti builder. |

I agree with you. But the whole premise of the OP’s post is a bit weird. Gets in line for a deposit, then more than two months later, asks people to evaluate his decision? Seems odd. I’ll leave it at that.
