Rapha Winter Jacket

https://www.rapha.cc/gb/en/shop/mens...uct/SJK12XXEMP

I've never bought even a single item of Rapha clothing, but this jacket has my attention. Are Rapha winter jackets well received?

Rapha makes really well made kit.

Rapha is having supply chain issues.

If you think you want this you might buy it soon but know that the holiday sale is 3-4 weeks away and this will probably be discounted at some point.

I tried one on at the local rapha store and liked the fit. It is only rated as water resistant so you may still get wet in big rain. I also question chest zips on a rain jacket I think under arm is better for rain protection. That said, the chest zips would be good for ventilation and actually make nice pockets for small items. I was thinking about it for light rain and cold night riding as there are plenty of reflective details on the jacket. It seems like it would be plenty warm down to freezing temps with the right jersey or base layer. The only had black (non starter for me) and brown in the store...no orange. The brown color is a curious color choice to me but looks much nicer in person.

I have owned a couple and recommend sizing up. I’m a XL in Rapha jerseys but XXL in jackets. Quality stuff - you get what you pay for

One note about size. According to the folks in the store it’s sized to accommodate layering. I am normally between xl and xxl in rapha stuff but would buy an xl in this jacket. Sleeves were plenty long too.

I have an older Rapha Classic Wind jacket, Pro Team jacket and Classic Winter jacket and they replaced a bunch of Assos kit. I would have to bet the their new Classic Winter jacket is going to be good and that it is properly sized for layering. Rapha is good about responding to questions imho.

I thought about springing for this as well for when I ride the Scottish Highlands again. Ways in the future, though.

Echoing what others have said: Rapha has excellent customer service.

I checked it out the other day. I’ve decided going with the Velocio soft shelled jacket when it comes out in a week or two. I own the soft shell vest and it is about the most comfortable vest I have worn. I am sure their jacket will be too.

Does the velocio jacket offer much rain protection? Do you expect it to be breathable? It looks nice and I wasn’t familiar with the brand.

I wouldn't use it as my rain jacket. But I wouldn't use the Ralph jacket as my rain jacket either. It is water resistant. You will be fine in a light rain shower. It is breathable but what I really like about the vest is the comfort. It just fits nice. Also, it uses a large zipper that is so easy to unzip with on hand and find with gloves. I really don't like riding off-road and having to fiddle finding the zipper and going no handed to unzip it. Also the high collar really makes you feel snug and keeps you really warm when you need it and if you get hot unzip it a little and you are good.

I just checked out the link. The aesthetics are great. Really cool looking. However, this is DWR treated and not made with Gore-Tex. If I was riding in wet (or very wet) conditions, I’d opt for the Rapha.

Edit: for very wet conditions, this one: https://www.rapha.cc/gb/en/shop/mens...uct/PPG01XXBLK

Thanks. Agreed the rapha jacket is not a full rain jacket.
