Gravel frame decision impossibly, this thread is devoted to listing different frames

1.) State bicycle co black label aluminum frameset. Looks pretty decent. Under $700 frameset. Comes in attractive brown color. Wack sizing because it goes from 54 to 58. I would probably buy one if I could be convinced one or the other is the right size but I don’t know.

2.) Trek checkpoint ALR. It $1000 new. Lots of mounts and stuff for bike packing. 56 is available to buy now in a decent green color. Probably somewhat light. Only drawback is 650b clearance and the fact that it’s supposedly not made for 650b

3.) lynskey GR300. About $1400 after discount. Lots going for it such as made in USA, titanium. Good geometry options and the other stuff ticks all the boxes. Cons are it’s fairly heavy, possibly sluggish in general because of flex and long chain stays. I’m seriously tempted by one of these but if it climbs poorly that will be it, I would never buy a metal frameset again.

4.) ibis Hakka max frameset. $2000, and available. Again 55 to 58 size gap so idk. Pros, it’s light and work good as a road bike. Cons maybe it’s a little stiff according to some. Not sure how much I care because I have a 20lb mountain bike I’m happy to ride if it’s going to be rough.

5.) trek checkpoint SL. $2000 frame. Apparently the isospeed coupler is good, frame is well thought out and lots of mounts. Not made for 650b (did I mention I have 650b wheels and tires already) but can fit them at the expense of low bb? Not sure if it’s really an issue. Frameset color options are kinda meh.

6.) Santa Cruz stigmata. $2300 but nobody has them in stock. All in all this is the most attractive option but you can’t buy one anyways and it’s expensive.

Someone else can add options above $2500 because I’m not considering them lol.

Also I think unless you go custom or something sweet like a moots, there is no reason to go over $2500 for a gravel bike at the moment.

Not sure of what rims/tires but the local trek shop has riders that have 650b on their checkpoints.

I have two friends with checkpoints and they both like them. Only nit is on the 105 version (sl 5?) wheels are heavy

I have a Salsa Warbird and really like it

My girlfriend has a checkpoint and likes it, it seems like a good option but not for $2000 necessarily. I test fitted 650x47 on her bike and they fit but it looks like it has almost more clearance for 700c (probably 50mm) because of the frame shape.

Norco Search (especially if you like a tall headtube).

I love my Parlee Chebacco and bought it complete and new for a very good price. Sold off the stock stuff and built it up with what I wanted. Built up into a very nice riding bike.

I also have a Warbird and like it quite a bit. Lightweight and versatile. AFAIK no fork recall issues with the 2020 model that I have. I really like it and think it’s a great choice even if you aren’t going bikepacking.

Check out the Lauf Anywhere. Solid frame and Lauf just lowered the price. I’ve put one through the ringer and have been happy. Plus they have a threaded BB

+Lauf.
This is a great 700c option. It will fit a 650x47, but I don't think 650b makes the bike better. fwiw I have the Grit which has the weirdo fork but the same frame as the Anywhere.

Do you have to buy the complete bike or is there a frameset option I’m not seeing?

They used to sell framesets. Definitely send them an email and ask.
