sure, but that was bound to happen at some point.
if you want to go down that road, the bigger question is rear spacing which will make ALL wheels obsolete.

there's always going to be some reason why someone buys one group over another. whether it's sunk cost or ergonomics, the point is that performance as a distinguishing factor has moved pretty far down that list for nearly everyone paying for their own equipment.

shimano went to 11s..a whole legion of 10s wheels became 'obsolete'..same for sram when they went to 12s..It was a shame to see somebody with a VERY expensive shimano DA rear wheel that could NOT use or be converted to, 11s...
