Campy 12S chain question

Manual says to shorten to 110 links, but that assumes you're joining with a pin. If I use a quick link, I assume I shorten to 109 links?

I would determine the length by putting it on the bike to fit it. 110 links assumes that your chain stays are a certain length etc.

The 110 length is based off campys chainstay length range which my bike falls into

What he said, size it 'normally' in small-small..And for the OP, remember a chain 'link' is the inner and outer plate='one link'...

Size it, then if using a snap link, remove that one outer link portion, then install the snap link.

One last question. In order to use the quick link I will have to shorten chain by removing links just upstream up the master link. Campy says not to remove master but I assume this is only if you are planning on joining with a pin.

Or 111. Easier to shorten it if too long than add two master links to make it longer if too short.

Correct. Plates that receive a pin must be 'virgin' plates, never had a pin thru it...BUT, if you are going to use a snaplink, sure, remove that 'virgin' outer link section.

When using a quick link, there will be inner plates left at both ends and the chain length will be 53.5 for a 54 inch chain, 54.5 for a 55 inch chain. The quick link adds the last half inch and joins the two pairs of inner links.

The original virgin outer plates must be removed.

Glad you got it knocked.

PSA for others: the Campy guidance based on chain stay length doesn't work if you're using a Chorus sub-compact crankset. I initially went by the manual but the chain was too long by one link. OP's small-small technique is still best IME.

Campy has now corrected that information, with three chainstay lengths. I had the same issue, so I removed the joining pin and an inch of chain, then used a SRAM eagle quick link.
