Any chance of a Garmin 530 going on sale anywhere?
I've been waiting for months to pick up a Garmin 530 at a decent price and have seen nothing, yet. Given the situation with the scarcity of new bike parts, what do you think the chances of Garmins going on sale?
I'm thinking I'm just going to have to *gasp* pay retail for one, and will either do REI or my LBS. I'm leaning towards my LBS after my visit there yesterday. Can't get bikes, parts are tough to get (even basics like cables) so even repairs can be challenging. |

I was snooping a few weeks back, and LordGun had them for $260.
Still tempted to keep some smackers in my pocket and try the Bolt, but Garmin is the devil I know. |

I think there was a one day sale last year around the holidays but I missed it. I was lucky my LBS had a few so I was able to buy one at retail a few weeks back. I've misplaced my 500 and I had wanted the 530 for a while anyway; I intend to get a varia soon.
I have to say, I love physical buttons on my toys and my car. But I do not find the buttons on the 530 intuitive. With the bike mounted in front of my stem, you would think the button closest to you (on the bottom right) would be the "OK" button, but it isn't, its the "Back" button. I'm still pushing the wrong button when going through the numerous menu screens. The up/down keys are also oddly placed. At least with the 500 it was two big buttons on the side, now they're much smaller and placed too close to the bottom. So the upside is that the screens are easier to configure than the 500, but the never ending button pushing to get through menus is still there. I've finally configured the screens to my liking, but there is definitely a part of me that regrets not looking at wahoo or the 830... Last edited by deechee; 04-15-2021 at 02:36 PM. |

You may have missed the boat on Garmin deals as we get into prime outdoor cycling season, I think fall-winter is when I've seen them on sale. The good news for a newish, current lineup model like the 530 you probably wouldn't see much more than a 10% off anyway. Check out BikeTiresDirect periodically you might get lucky with a deal, and I think you can earn VIP points on a Garmin too so there's that.

My last couple of Garmin's came from their refurbished dept. For wife, grandkids, etc. They looked new to me. Worked like new retail ones. Check that out.

Well, I just swung by the LBS and ordered one thru him. I stop by a lot to say hi, but end up buying very little from him. After my visit a few days ago where he told me he was having trouble even getting shifter cables, I figured the business wouldn't hurt.
So heads up, because this means that Garmins will be going for fire sale prices any day now. |

Good job supporting shop, enjoy. I've been very happy with my 530 it does more than I'll ever need (...a-n-d I also probably jinxed myself to a lost ride or some other Garmin fail )
