OT: 2023 - 2024 Football / Calcio / Futbol / Fußball Thread

A new season has begun.

Bayern misfiring in the German Supercup, but will probably still manage its 12th (or is it 13th) straight Meisterschale.

In England, both Arsenal and Man City are off to winning starts. Lots going on.

Well, my team Everton off to a less than stellar start, proving that last season’s near relegation likely not a fluke.

The first half showed why Bayern forked out 120mio for the Harrykane, and the second half showed why Tuchel insists in getting a defensive minded #6

You guys have Kimmich

Also, didn’t Alaba want to play the #6 position way back when?

big argument whether Kimmich is a defensive midfielder. He says he is, everyone else thinks he is to attack/playmaker oriented for that. He also gave in to Mats Hummels syndrome "i can't be in the wrong position, because my skills are needed everywhere". With Kane, at least there is now a 10% chance of his corners finding a teammate. "Ecke Kimmich" is bavarian for "nothing will happen so it is safe to go to the bathroom and get a fresh beer from the fridge"

As a consequence of Kimmich being no #6, we have Goretzka, Gravenberch and bought Laimer, neither of whom is a #6 either.
Alaba thought he was a #8, #10 or #11. Turned out his best position is CB...
But position wasnt the reson he left.

Pretty sure that was just a convenient excuse his PR team used.

And on the issue of DMs; wow they are getting scarce

@wc1934, I was shopping for jerseys (most of mine are a tad too unbreathable) on the Santini website and noticed the following. Pretty sure Santini is based close enough to Bergamo.

Unfortunately, nothing for Napoli. Though nothing for any of the Torinese and Milanese teams either.

Just finished watching United - Tottenham. Spurs looked very good -- Maddison in particular. Mount was invisible. United has a lot of work to do.

After they got rolled last weekend by Brentford. Probably a roller coaster of a season for Spurs.

After losing Kim and Spalletti, no less.

At least the main attackers are staying, and Spalletti is now in charge of the national team. I think overall he should do better than Mancini. Still think that Mancini got really lucky at the Euros.

Brentford seem off to a good start this year.
Draw with Tottenham and a good win over Fullham.

Go Bees!

Vicario got blasted for his pre-season performance. He seemed like a class act when he was with Empoli.
Thus:
“Let the apologies be as loud as the disrespect,” wrote a fan on Twitter. “Vicario is an extremely talented keeper.”

This Jude Bellingham is a rather good football player, isn't he?

So really wish he hadn't been injured during those last two games. Could have became an overnight hero in Dortmund by helping der Borussia HeißSporn (I mean BvB) lift important silverware for once...

C'mon, we can do better than that.

That said, NUFC and its Saudi can f*** right off.

The best quip I've seen so far "Pope's authority undone by Darwinian evolution."

That first Núñez goal elicited some unbridled screams from me. The second one elicited was sheer magic, kinda like how when Carvalho stabbed one home in added time against (checks notes), NUFC of all teams after NUFC spent better parts of the second half of that match time wasting.

Anthony Gordon, what a t*** of the highest order.
