Ride to Conquer Cancer

I decided to do the Ride to Conquer Cancer this year.
I lost my brother a few years ago to cancer, and now my mother has a breast cancer diagnosis, so I really want to try to get the fund raising done so I can ride

I attached the link in case anybody feels like donating.

http://bndfr.com/9pXrR

I apologize if this breaks forums rules, if it does, please delete.

What percentage of the money donated actually goes to the hospital?

It run by the hospital, so I imagine 100%...after all the marketing expense.

It does seem very successful.

A couple of clicks on their website shows 64% return to the hospital after expenses.

Better than many events of this type.

Having done it 8 times it's fun but the route has its challenges.

The ride from Hamilton to Niagara is always windy and through chicken farms.

I regularly ride the first half of toronto to Hamilton. It's pretty good.

The start is crazy. Lots of crashes as people bump each other. I've always been right at the front so not too bad.

I do a similar one in mass from which all of the rider raised funds wind up where they’re supposed to.

If you want 100% of donations to go to cancer research, cross the border and ride the PMC.

The Pan-Mass Challenge is fairly unique in that it has so much corporate sponsorship that ALL expenses are covered and 100% of rider-raised donations go to Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

PMC is the exception in so many ways.

100% is not the norm.

If you want to support research in Canada and your local hospital, then 64% is not bad.

I've ridden through chicken farms and they can be challenging. However, ride though pig farms if you REALLY want to challenge yourself.

I worked at a pig farm as a kid. Prefer it over poultry smells.

A nice ride by an abbattoir in July?

And on topic the hardest part is the fundraising.

Also if you need a spot to drop gear the night before my place is less than 1k from the start.

Everybody everywhere is 'touched' by cancer. They know somebody, are related to someone or have had this terrible disease itself.
Billion$(trillion$?) have been spent on the research to find some 'cure'..
For me, my Dad, brother, 2 uncles, 2 brothers-in-law, son...

Hope the 'cure' is somewhere, somehow, found soon.

So true and there is progress being main. It's unfortunate that it takes so much funding to do so...
