Another SoCal Masters Racing Douchebaggery

Seth has a good summary and link to video of a hideous and potentially criminal incident at Ladera Ranch that took out one of our local cycling coaches, John Walsh. While some viewers may say that this is just racing, Doyle has a rep and people who know him are clear that this was intentional.

Use password doyle to view the video on Vimeo:

Start at 3 minutes if you're impatient.

A fund for John's medical expenses is circulating on social media. Beyond the broken bones, he has bleeding on the brain: https://www.gofundme.com/2mjn6bg/donate

That's the SoCal way! Justin Williams, and that whole crew, just watch his Youtoube uploads. Legitimize it even more with some awesome rock music and slow-mo. Rubbin' is racin! etc and all that bull. That behavior is celebrated in that scene so why is it surprising when the chickens come to roost? Frankly I'm amazed one of the Williams or their buddies isn't breathing out of a tube by now.

It really sucks that this dude got hurt, and I hope there are some real world consequences for the offender because that's just plain bad. The guy who caused the crash sounds like a psycho!

That's not "rubbing is racing" and he needs to be dealt with by the police or the racing community. In my day as districracing.if I had seen that, this guy would have had a very long vacation from racing. But I have actually seen worse. Even here in Louisiana.

Intentional?

I am not so sure it was intentional- To me, it more looked like really poor judgement.
I say this because he put himself in a really precarious position.

i've been on the giving and receiving end of hip or shoulder checks, but never done deliberately and so blatantly like that asshole did. sure, sometimes things get close and you mark your space (or others mark it for you on their own behalf), but what that guy did was the equivalent of sucker punching someone in the back of the head...without him even knowing it was coming.
