I'm in the Ralph camp on this (even though I did not seek out the cheapest source for my Potenza RD). If I can pop that baby on and have it work this smoothly I'm not going to mess with Franken-RDs. I did look at the Skunkworks mod and they were working with a Super Record EPS RD, which seems to have worked fine. But I did notice in their video of it that it did not have what I would want as a good amount of chain wrap. (In fact, it looked like they did not change the chain to a longer one when they did the mod.)

Thanks for all the discussion; carry on.

Opps, my bad. If you're talking potenza, the mid-cage RD is $116 at Ribble it comes in silver or black:

http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/campag...ear/#pid=35250

Total Cycling has black mid-cage RD for $105:

http://www.totalcycling.com/en/Campa...r/m-22529.aspx

Another possible option, is to get an Athena 11 speed long cage (they call it Triple) RD for $98:

http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/campag...ear/#pid=25376

Further, Merlin has a 10 speed Centaur long cage RD for $47!:

https://www.merlincycles.com/campagn...eur-93034.html

If you can get that to work with 11 speed shifters, you're good to go for really cheap!

So there are some good cheap options! Good Luck!

It is my understanding that post 2015 11 speed shifters need their own RDs. So, would this mid-cage RD not be usable wtih post 2015 11 speed shifters too.

Appreciate the help!
Rumor has it that 2015+ rear ders work with any Campag shifter but I haven't tried it.

The potenza stuff works very well (inclusive of the 32)... And I'm not sure that anyone would gripe about or even notice the difference in looks versus groups costing 2-3-4 times as much...

This full build (paying full retail) is under $6K inclusive of custom geometry if you like (this is sock size)... That's pedals, cages, and a $300 saddle (made just down the highway in norther Italy).

I had to replace a busted rear derailleur on a 2011 Chorus group with a new 2015 version. Works fine with the 2011 shifters.

What are the differences between the potenza freewheel and say a chorus one in terms of quality and manufacturing?

Reason I'm asking is because I'm currently running a 32 shimano freewheel with my chorus derailleur. Might at some point want to employ a campy hub.

Thx

Thanks And for Ultraman...I have used many '11s' rear ders on older, pre 11s/2008 and older, systems and they work great. So...with above, a '11s' rear der will work with just about any Campag shifting system.

Potenza is a wee bit heavier, more loose cogs rather than cogs attached to spiders..wear and function is a wash.

Ihave been told by one of the best mechanics in the states that he was told by a Campy technician that no problem replacing the cage on, in my case, my Chorus 11 RD with a Potenza cage. Works perfectly and the cages can be bought. Soon as I receive mine along with a 11/32 cassette and a chain (current chain won't be long enough), that's the setup I'll be running, 34/50 cranks, 11-32 cassette, all Chorus '15 but with the cage replaced. I'm looking forward to that combo.

I guewss you would define "way". Record 10 with a mid cage was 195 grams and Potenza is 211...

Looking at the parts blowup, yes, Chorus and Potenza cages look the same.

Wonder who has the Potenza cage for sale tho..care to share?
