Scotch/3M 8898 Tape - Where to buy?

There have been quite a few recommendations here on PL to use Scotch/3M 8898 tape for tubeless set ups. I need a narrow 17 to 19mm version for a non-tubeless set of wheels.

Can anyone recommend a source for said tape? I am mostly finding bulk boxes online and only need one roll.

Where do you find this stuff?

Thank you! This is what I need but on principle I refuse to pay $15 shipping for a $5 roll of tape. If I was building multiple wheels then yes but I just have one wheelset to take care of. I was hoping to find it in my local big box retailer but I guess this is more of a specialty tape.

Are you able go to your LBS and get Stan’s? Do you need sealant and stems?

I had bad luck with this tape. I recommend Stan's or the Tesa equivalent.

I find stans tape too brittle and not sticky enough compared to some of the other options out there.

I'm a fan of the 8898 tape for rims. I use it on all my wheels. I picked up a 60 yard roll on eBay for a very reasonable price: https://www.ebay.com/itm/18429949096...Bk9SR-jgspvDYw

Tesa 4288 is also highly-regarded for rim tape, use the 3/4" version for rims up to 18mm internal, 1" for up to 25mm. 1 layer for tubeless setup, 2 layers for tubes.

It's $3-4 per roll from Uline, but you have to buy a dozen minimum. Places resell on eBay for $15-16 per roll...

OP, shoot me your address. I have most of a roll of the 3/4" that's never going to get used since all my wheels are at least 21mm internal. I'll throw it in the mail to you.

Yep, that's the magic tape to use, and I order several rolls from Hughes. Take a look at the YuoTube on this tape https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYgbdXhSZ60

FWIW, I got this roll from November wheels. Not sure if they still sell it.

I have used the 8898 for a long time, but did have a problem with corroded nipples on my mtb wheels last winter, meaning I have sealant leakage. Maybe I need to retape on a schedule even if I have no issues. I've tried Kapton as well and it works okay, just doesn't stick to carbon very well (or at all).

Alright, after taping up 4 rims this week and running low on 8898, I impulsively bought a bulk lot of 9 rolls. It's the 24mm version. Anybody want to buy me out of a couple? Can do $13 shipped which is a little cheaper than eBay.

Hmm. a lot seems of online stuff seems to suggest 8896 would be a tad better than 8898

Apparently, it has more adhesive so it sticks better. Might have saved me a re-tape after I cleaned the rim an applied the tape too soon. The solvent hadn't dried completely and I guess dripped out of the spoke holes. The tape didn't stay put, air leaks everywhere.
