Dent repaired an old Serotta.

Hey everyone,

I just finished a dent repair on an adorable older Serotta. Totally cool working on a frame built by the guy who got me first exposed to framebuilding!

Have a great day!
Allan

Nicely done, thanks for sharing. Just out of curiosity, what would you charge for a repair like that? I’m not in the market, curious.

Thanks!

I charged 50 bones. Took me an hour and a half. Haven't done one in years so I could probably do it in an hour next time.

Thumbs up, thanks Allan, only picture I would liked to have seen, is a picture of the dent after rolling.

One other quick question, will a painter need to go over the repair with filler or will an etching primer be enough to prep before paint? Or should I be asking this question to the painter?

Nice job.

The one time I tried this (with admittedly more amateur blocks made from oak), and perhaps a dent that had more of a crease in the bottom--I did get most of the dent to roll out, but I also got a hairline crack in what had been the bottom crease. (The crack may have been there to begin with--I really don't know).

How much stress would said crack be under? And would it be acceptable to braze (as you have done) and call it good?

I wonder if you were able to seal the tube and compress a couple hundred pounds of air into it if just heating up the area of the dent with a torch would have any affect.
Of course Sheldon Brown had a better idea.
