I like big butts and I can not lie

With apologies to Sir-Mix-a-Lot, I'm running 700c x 38mm Panaracer Gravel Kings tubeless on my ride everything bike and want to go bigger (max 44mm). Most of my riding is terrible condition chip seal or hard-pack gravel. Let me add that I have a 5-mile stretch to get out to the more rural roads and that stretch is covered in sh#t (glass, construction crap, etc.). Puncture resistance is important (even with sealant in my tires).

What do you all recommend?

Shortlist:

Rene Herse Snoqualmie Pass 44mm
Panaracer GravelKing SK+ Tubeless 42mm
What else?

I'm running 38mm SK+ and they are really nice on my everything bike. A little firmer than the GK slicks I had.

Only my own experience here, but I like the 40c WTB Byways on my 19mm Niner rims. At riding pressures, they are about 38-39mm and for me, are perfect for what you're describing. Maybe these aren't as wide as you want, but the smoother center with light side knobs roll really nicely on pavement, hardpack and typically-crappy city streets.

These also come in 44mm.

That's what I'm running today. I agree -- they are great tires. I want to run lower pressure fatter tires for more comfort on the sh#t roads which surround me.

Rene Herse Hurricane Ridge

Some knobbies might give you a little more separation from the crap on the ground penetrating the tire casing, while not sacrificing speed or comfort.

Most of my riding is on 23s at 8 bars. I even ride an occasional gravel road with 'em. I do have 28s on my Rambouillet.

I have standard casing Compass (Rene Herse) Snoqualmie Pass on my monstercross which sees most of my in and around town and bad road use. They are wonderful tires and have been very durable for me (one flat in ~2000mi?), that said I would not consider them particularly puncture resistant. Maybe consider the endurance casing?? I have no experience with the endurance and for the price it would seem other choices might be more viable.

I much prefer the ride of the Snoqualmie's to the Barlow Pass, apparently Sno's are Rene Herse's narrowest "wide" tire and Barlow the widest "narrow" tire, meaning the Barlows have a thicker thread down the center.

That's cool, you like to go slow, nothing wrong with that.

Compass and GK SK tires seem like polar opposites. WTB Byways or Ventures seem like a good compromise.

I just switched from 23's to Conti GP5000 28's, I'll never go back to 23's, never.
