What’s interesting is the language or debate about usage is similar. Most striking though is the difference. Essentially if you don’t give the cyclist room, you are liable.

Yep, times have changed. Amazing how roads used to be public and intended for different users and the more vulnerable users were given priority.

Ahh I see. Makes sense now. I agree roads were never "safe" but at least they were seen as being the domain of all users not just one set of users.
