I guess the next step is another shop visit so they can check the internal wires and try and find the gremlin in the system. More cost and more time without a bike. With Sram, I would have tried a new battery in 3 seconds and had an answer if that was the problem.
That is a pretty easy problem to diagnose: Using a test switch and digital ammeter is the simplest, most accurate way to measure parasitic drain directly. A test switch goes between the negative battery terminal and negative battery cable.

On a car however same procedure on a bicycle https://www.wikihow.com/Find-a-Parasitic-Battery-Drain

Actually the Shimano "battery in the axle" is yet another workaround to avoid Srams (clever yet overarching) patents for "battery on derailleur".

I assume you are talking power meters and not derailleurs?

No idea, but I've been told I'll need to wait a while.

No. Referring to the unreleased Shimano wireless rear derailleur.

I will attach pics when I find them.

I find it exceptionally hard to believe that SRAM has a valid patent on a battery attached to an electronic derailleur. One of the criteria for patents is that they invention be non-obvious - and attaching a battery to a battery powered device is about as about as obvious as you can get.

Sadly, patent examiners no longer examine patents, and let just about anything through. The current thinking seems to be that a patent is a just a federally recognized rubber stamp, with no research into whether it even merits being patented. It is then left to the lawyers and the courts to determine whether the patent is really valid or not. Unfortunately, the result is that the deepest pockets will win any IP challenges.

(Actually, various shenanigans int the patent office isn't that new. Just google "Elisha Grey telephone patent" or "Marconi radio patent" as but two examples.)

While I am no fan of e-groupsets, I saw a number of bikes with this groupset on the weekend at an event in Italy. I see many comments bout derailleur size and offending looks/design.
In my humble opinion, I did it notice derailleur size. Sitting on the bike, the shifters looked and felt really nice, like Campagnolo always has.
Once prices settle, I can well see myself (and many others) buy this.
