Dry July.
For two years now I have participated in the Slowtwitch no alcohol January. I don’t drink alcohol daily and usually quit after 2 most of the time. I do feel much better when I cut out alcohol. So it seemed like a good thing to do again. The tough part will come at the end of the month since I do have a 7 day MTB trip planned with friends and we always finish with a few beers and sit around a camp fire at night drinking beer.

Bring your own nonalcoholic beer to the event?

2nd the non-alcoholic beer comment above. It works quite well actually.

Try Athletic Brewing beers, the IPA's are really good and you won't miss the alcohol. I have it on subscription and get delivery every month, great company.

this. I used to drink an IPA every night. And then a couple of glasses of red wine. Few months ago I switched to the Hazy IPA from Athletic (the one from Sam Adams is also very good). It really gives me the beer satisfaction without the alcohol. I'm a big fan of these hazy NA IPAs now. And I've lost some weight

It’s crazy how time can change something like my enjoyment in an after ride beer. Since January of this year, I have had exactly 3 beers and didn’t really enjoy them much. The rides were great, the company was great, and there was just as many laughs as I passed on a second or third beer. I haven’t had one yet, but the next time I meet friends and drinking comes up, I’m going for a nonalcoholic Heineken based on recommendations from others I know that have found themselves in my position. At this point though, I suspect I’ll be just as happy with an ice cold Root Beer.

LOL! When I first read ^^^that sentence I interpreted it to mean "I usually quit after 2:00PM" |

Since getting sick end of February I've not had a drunk. Realize I don't really miss drinking and likely will only have occasional cocktail or wine when I go out for dinner.
Now to figure out dhat yo do with my luwuor collection. It is nearly 200 bottles of tequila, bourbon and scotch. |

Others have some great recs as well, but I find when folks are having a beer I'm quite content to have a coffee (you could use decaf at night?).. just a thought

I like Becks NA. Athletic is not quite 0.0%, I don't think, but very close. There are some Japanese brands that are decent too.
One note is that alcohol is not the only substance in beer that is bad for you - hops are a very strong phytoestrogen (plants that stimulate estrogen production) so those non-alcoholic IPAs are addressing most but not all of the problem. I switched over to lower-hop content beers a while back (lower IBUs if I have the terminology right) and it makes a difference. Think porters, the darker Belgian beers etc. - although those of course often have higher alcohol content. I love the taste of IPAs, and don't avoid entirely, but I have found that "next day performance" at least feels better with lower-hop beers, for the same relative alcohol. |

I stopped drinking hard liquor in March 2020. When I started again in the middle of 2021, when social gatherings were resuming, I seemed to have lost my taste for scotch, bourbon, tequila, vodka, gin, etc.
I now have a drink very rarely but don't look forward to it as I used to, and one is enough. I never feel the desire for a second drink any more.
