Favorite gumwall/tan wall clincher tires

For an upcoming Colnago build I am trying to get a set of clincher tires (<25mm measured width) that are gumwall/tan wall. In the Bay Area, there can be lots of road debris and glass that can slash tires and I want to find some tires that will be able to hold up to that road abuse + look like a classic pair of Italian open tubulars.

Based on some ongoing threads about the Vittoria Corsa Pro + Vittoria Corsa G2.0, it doesn't seem that they are very puncture resistant. Even more concerning is that Challenge and Veloflex models that are the equivalent to Vittoria, seem to be even worse at puncture protection.

So what gumwall/tan wall tires are you using that you have found to be generally long lasting, puncture resistant and fairly performant?

While I have never run them that narrow, I can enthusiastically recommend Vittoria Corsa Control clinchers. They totally eliminated my flat tire problems in NYC, and they roll as fast and smooth as I'll ever need. The only tire I put on my bikes anymore!

Corsa Controls would be ideal, but they balloon up to 27mm from the 25mm version, which I don't think I have clearance for on my Colnago Tecnos.

so 23mm tanwalls but more protection vs speed -- not a lot to choose from.

So <25 as in 23 (because who makes 24s), or is 25 still acceptable?

GP5000 AS TR are real fast for a fairly hardy tire.

25 is the smallest though.

Maybe you could find some old-school narrow rims then? My 28mm Corsa Control clinchers measure a true 28mm on H Plus Son Archetype rims, which are 17.5mm internal width. (They measure significantly wider on another wheelset that has 19mm internal rims.)

My Bora 35s are 17mm internal width, so maybe worth a shot with 25mm Controls. The Bicycle Rolling Resistance test rim was 17.8mm internal, so could have a larger effect on the measured 25mm -> 27mm tire width difference.

Panaracer GK 26’s. They run pretty true to sizing, good puncture protection- at least I’ve never had a flat over several years of use on different bikes.

I like the Gravel Kings a lot The 26’s measure at a hair under 28 on Hed Belgium with 18.2 internal, a hair under 26 on Vuelta 15mm internal rims.

I use Schwalbe Pro One and rarely get a flat.
Glass can slash any tire. You can get tires with more flat protection like Conti Gatorskins but they ride like bricks.

That's what you need. Old-school narrow rims and Vittoria Corsa Control clinchers.

If you can find narrow enough rims, don't forget the veloflex cross evo 25mm

I’ve been riding Veloflex tires in clincher and tubular versions around the Bay Area for a while now, they’ve been great.
